Northrop Grumman Defense Space Systems is seeking to add a Sr. Staff Sentinel System Safety Engineer to its Safety Engineering team located in Huntsville, AL or Roy, UT in support of the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

The Sr. Staff Sentinel System Safety Engineer is to be an expert with extensive experience in the influence of design for meeting safety expectations and requirements for Northrop Grumman GBSD Products. The prime objective of the Sr. Staff Sentinel System Safety Engineer is to create a strong culture of teams and IPTs that incorporate safety into every aspect of the designs, processes, activities, testing and maintenance of our systems and the safety of personnel.
The successful candidate will independently analyze and recommend design features that meet safety criteria in system design to control or eliminate hazards. The role includes active participation in the design of products/systems, associated support equipment and facilities. The role includes the creation of functional specifications and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems. The tasks includes developing safety documents, as required, to support customer and test/operational range requirements and performing audits of operational areas and reporting on the effectiveness of system safety program. The role includes evaluating the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost effective program. The extended areas of responsibility include NEPA, Environmental regulations and ESOH.
The candidate will have extensive expertise in the application of MIL-STD-882E in design development of complex military systems. The candidate will have extensive experience in generation of required artifacts such as System Safety Program Plans, System Safety Analysis Reports and Functional Hazards Analysis Reports. The candidate will have extensive experience in the application of safety principles and methods to mature the GBSD systems design for safety and support flight test and flight worthiness of complex systems. The candidate must have considerable experience in military range safety and testing of complex military systems.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related experience, 10 years of related experience with a PhD.Twelve years of experience in direct system safety MIL-STD-882E work on complex military systemsMinimum of five years of leading teams of system safety engineers on military systemsMinimum of two years of experience in ESOH considerations in complex facilities and installed equipmentOne year of experience in environmental protection regulation efforts with state and/or federal agenciesOne year of experience in military range and munitions safetyOne year experience in software safetyStrong written and verbal communication skills of the English language is desiredMust have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.Preferred Qualifications:

Salary Range: $162,500.00 - $243,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
