Job Summary

The Public Safety Sergeant provides supervision of shift including responsibility for assigning and coordinating Officer duties, evaluation of daily patrol activity and reports, productivity reports, special events, conflict resolution, emergency response and law enforcement coordination.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires 60 credits from an accredited college or 30 credits and qualifying military service
• Four years of experience in safety/law enforcement
• Must possess and maintain a valid US driver’s license
• Must be available for flexible shift scheduling

**Relevant law enforcement supervisory experience may substitute for a portion of the education requirements

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Requires clear and effective verbal and written skills
• Requires ability to effectively deal with multiple emergency situations
• Requires excellent customer relation skills
• Requires critical decision making
• Requires ability to effectively supervise staff and resources
• Requires the ability to utilize PC and the applications associated with Windows Office and job specific software

Local travel between campus locations only

Driving

Driving a Rensselaer vehicle for non-passenger use

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $26.00 - $28.00 per hour

This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
