The Service Coordinator in the operating room Facilitates smooth operations of a patient service area by providing clerical support for healthcare team members, patients, and families on an inpatient unit.
Facilitates communication with and between staff members, patients, and family members to ensure that information related to patient conditions and concerns is relayed in a timely manner. Access and operates paging system, phones, call lights, and internal Information Technology Help Desk to locate and
communicate with staff and maintain smooth operation of unit.
Enters data into computer, prepares new patient charts for admissions, and ensures appropriate forms and paperwork are in order to maintain accurate medical records. Audits charts to identify missing or incomplete records. Processes and requisitions patient care service orders based on physician orders and
instruction from professional staff. Processes completed records following patient discharge.
OR Scheduling - Arranges for scheduled patients arrival into the O.R. to reduce or eliminate unused O.R. time. Mobilizes scheduled or unscheduled cases when scheduling opportunities arise. Communicates to key members of the health care team to ensure use of O.R. time. Communicates with various departments of items needed for patient care. Cross-trains to other assignments as directed by the Nurse Manager.
