Join TriMet's team as a Summer Intern!
Seeking college students studying transportation, statistics, computer science, data science, business, planning, or a related discipline to support TriMet's Operations Planning and Development Department (OPD).
The intern will be responsible for performing various tasks including performance analysis, research, asset inventory development, operations process review, and operations planning.
The Operations Planning and Development Department manages the budgeting, planning for future services, and analysis and reporting for TriMet operations including the Chief Operating Officer, Transportation, and Maintenance divisions. Examples of recent projects include:
+ Coordination of operations budget requests for capital and operating funds, including documentation of replacement plans and business need justification.
+ Development of a Transportation Division dashboard to identify key performance indicators and centralize related performance reports.
+ Trend and root cause analysis to inform maintenance program priorities and resource allocation and planning.
+ Facilitation of cross-departmental projects including service disruption planning and implementation related to capital improvement projects.
+ Development of operations improvement projects to improve performance in safety, on-time performance, and customer service.
This Internship is an excellent opportunity to build skills, gain experience, and develop connections with industry professionals.
Interns will have access to TriMet's Learning and Development Program for an opportunity to build competencies in management, professional development, organizational citizenship, computer skills, and leadership skills.
Intern may be asked to perform/observe duties in the field, which would require use of TriMet provided Personal Protective Equipment.
TriMet's Internships are excellent opportunities to build skills, gain experience, develop connections with industry professionals and develop work samples for a portfolio. Relevant experience is useful, but most important is a willingness and excitement to learn.
This Internship is performed in-person. Applicants must be available to work in-person in the Portland Metro region of Oregon.

Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers’ experiences and of TriMet’s product and service offerings.
Essential Functions
+ Learn to review current processes for operations performance reporting and planning, and recommend improvements based on site visits, stakeholder input, and research on best practices.
+ Learn about our asset inventory to contribute to the development of the maintenance information system that tracks maintenance work performed and scheduled (primary data source for maintenance performance reports and analysis).
+ Learn to analyze operations performance issues to identify trends and root causes, and conducting research on mitigation strategies.
+ Shadow and helping staff during operations performance and planning meetings.
+ Learn about key department processes and procedures to document these and enhance OPD's knowledge management program.
Position Requirements
Must be a current or incoming Junior, Senior or recent Graduate within the last 12 months .
+ Working toward a college degree in a related field in transportation, statistics, computer science, data science, business, or planning.
+ Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Self-direction, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
+ Must be computer literate; strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
+ Must have some experience with data, analysis, and research.
+ Experience with database query languages, programming, and reporting tools desirable, but not required.
+ Experience with performance analysis, financial analysis, business process improvements, and stakeholder coordination desirable, but not required.
Selection Criteria
Type of Position / Grade / FLSA
Non-Exempt, Non-Union, Full-Time (40 hours/week), Temporary. Internships will run May/June through August/September.
Wage
Interns will be paid $21/hour
