We are currently seeking talented individuals for our Service Technician Trainee (also known as our Hawthorne Technician Apprenticeship Program - HTAP) position!
Here is some of what you’ll do…
POSITION SUMMARY: The Hawthorne Technician Apprenticeship Program (HTAP) is a Scholarship/Apprentice program designed to give candidates both education and hands on experience. During participation in this program, students will be enrolled in technical and academic course work, working toward an AS degree or Diesel Technology Certification. The remaining time is spent at one of our various service branches in San Diego in paid on-the-job training (OJT). Once the AS degree or certificate is started, there is a five year stay agreement, which builds toward completion of a combination of all School and OJT requirements needed to earn a journey-level certificate.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ During program, must be actively enrolled in Miramar Community College’s Diesel Technology program and remain in good standing.
+ Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.
+ Perform all Caterpillar and allied product Preventive Maintenance (P.M.) services.
+ Perform technician duties as directed by supervisor.
+ Follow and adhere to Hawthorne company policies.
+ Exemplify professionalism and respect toward your professors, peers & colleagues.
+ Follow all safety measures.
+ Take initiative.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
+ High School Graduate or equivalent.
+ Valid California driver's license (Class C) with clean driving record.
+ PC Skills preferred.
ASSESSMENTS:
Upon enrollment at Miramar College, you will be required to take a college placement exam. Results must be provided to Human Resources.
Must complete competency assessment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
+ Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.
+ Hands/arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.
+ Handling: Works with hands.
+ Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools.
+ Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
+ Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
+ Standing: Remains in standing position if required for certain repair or maintenance work.
+ Climbing: In and out of equipment.
+ Vision: Reads work tickets, parts and service books and operate heavy equipment.
+ Talking: Communications by radio, phone and in person.
+ Hearing: Ability to discern mechanical problems, for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication by radio, phone and in person.
+ Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
+ Lifting: Up to 50 lbs. Frequent, daily exertion.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
+ Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
+ Temperatures/Weather: Works outside and in shop with variations of temperature and weather.
+ Exposure: Foul odors, fumes and harsh substances.
