Required Qualifications:
Four-year degree (Accounting, Finance or Business Administration)
Preferred Qualifications:
4-8 years experience
Preferred Certifications: CPA, CMA, MBA
Could include any of the following:
Prepare and input journals for operating expenses, statistical entries and accruals. Review monthly operating statements and balance sheets for reasonableness ensuring that financial statements are complete and accurate. Reconcile plant sub-ledger to PeopleSoft General Ledger. Maintain effective communication with plant personnel. Maintain a high quality and professional level of customer service for all customers. Stay up-to-date with accounting concepts, practices and procedures. Maintain proficiency in system skills. (Ex. Excel, Word, PeopleSoft, Hyperion, Optivsion, BaaN, TQMP, etc.) Participate in plant audits, identifying areas of weakness and non-compliance. Promote strong internal controls. Prepare property tax returns and government reports for assigned plants. Prepare balance sheet reconciliations as assigned. Prepare and input payroll and HR data into payroll system. Detect and correct errors requiring Sonoco, operational and managerial accounting knowledge during the closing process. Possess a solid operational knowledge of the businesses that you are responsible for the monthly closing. Responsible for calculating and making adjustment recommendations for corporate LIFO reserve. Possess a detailed understanding of the accounting for operating budgets, allocations, relocation, rebates, restructuring, international billings, staff accounting, monthly bridge and corporate reporting. Training of new Shared Services Accountants. Other duties as assigned.
Summary: Responsibilities include the monthly closing of assigned plants within the Sonoco network. This includes the reviewing of operating statements, reconciliation of sales and inventory accounts and the calculation and booking of various consumption and inventory valuation journals. Requires understanding of GAAP principles and their application within the Sonoco environment. Requires limited supervision. Relies on experience, judgment, and is given a wide degree of creativity and latitude to accomplish goals. May lead and direct the work of others.
Level III: The individual has a solid understanding of Sonoco’s accounting policies and business practices necessary to close the books or the person had extensive prior experience in closing the books for manufacturing company. In addition, the individual must be able to understand and implement external accounting policies (GAAP) as directed. The individual processes the necessary accounting skills and operational understanding to perform the job on a daily basis without supervision. The person must be able to assist in the training and development of staff members. The individual can initiate and lead projects that add value to the business. This person only needs general guidance and boundary setting when completing non-routine tasks.
Compensation:
The annual base salary range for this role is from $72,560 to $81,630.
