Summary
The Communications Specialist facilitates effective communication between NANA and our shareholders, ensuring transparency and engagement through social media, events, meetings and various communication methods.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Creates content for social media channels including photos, video and copy writing.
Compiles, organizes, and processes varying types of communications data.
Assists with the creation and implementation of communications strategies and tactics.
Understands and follows department policies and procedures.
Drafts a wide variety of well-written content, including companywide communications, articles, online posts, stories, and scripts for internal and external audiences.
Supports NANA’s online/social media strategies, campaigns, and activities.
Monitors NANA’s social media channels as well as other areas on social media where NANA may be talked about.
Maintains positive relationships while working with a wide variety of individuals to deliver NANA’s message.
Understands and practices Indigenous communications.
Follows the Iñupiat Ilitqusiat (Iñupiat Values) in work relationships and work products.
Operates in a climate of confidentiality requiring discretion.
Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, design, or related liberal arts field preferred.
Minimum three years marketing, communications, public relations, or agency experience preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Advanced MS office skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Experience with social media platforms.
Valid driver’s license with and acceptable driving record to be eligible under NANA’s vehicle insurance policy.
Organizational and interpersonal communications skills
Proven ability to establish and work within timelines.
Ability to work independently on assigned tasks
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.
Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Up to 25% of the time. Employee may travel throughout Alaska and/or to remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs. Travel to and from the worksite will be provided and arranged by NANA.
