Our client is Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). This is an on-site position and an excellent opportunity for the right individual. The contract is expected to last approximately 3 months with a pay rate of $24.00/hr.

The NTID Deaf Health Care and Biomedical Science Hub (Deaf Hub) has positions for Summer Healthcare Academic Research Program (SHARP) Novice Interpreters. Positions are full-time (40 hrs/week) for 12 weeks, May 15th - August 7th.

This position is ideal for recent graduates who would like experience working in a research center where ASL is the primary language, with research in diverse areas such as health literacy, Deaf women's pregnancy outcomes, accessibility and technology, and supporting Deaf scientists. Novice interpreters will have opportunities for supervised interpreting, observations, professional skill development, networking, and mentorship. Novice interpreters will interpret and observe small and large group meetings, presentations, and other Deaf Hub activities. Novice interpreters are also expected to engage in some research activities, either with Deaf Hub projects (outside of their interpreting duties) or in supported independent study.

Duties

Interpret and/or observe meetings; add voiceover to pre-recorded videos in ASLParticipate in supervision and debriefing; attend PD and skill development sessionsAssist in coordinating interpreters and other access services for meetingsAssist with other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Must have graduated from an interpreter training program or started interpreting professionally in the last 5 years (2019-2024)Must be able to submit link to your portfolioAbility to work independently and multitaskAbility to interpret between American Sign Language and EnglishOrganized, responsible, professional, and have good people skills

Monday-Thursday, 9am-5pmLimited hours on Fridays, evenings, and weekends if requested
