SHE Capabilities Manager – Environment

Main Job Purpose: 

Unilever has robust external and internal commitments for protecting people and the planet and the SHE community facilitates progress against those targets.

The SHE Capabilities Manager for Environment works with a network of internal and external professionals to establish an industry-leading position on environmental compliance of our sites, establishing standards and data requirements to support internal delivery and against evolving external reporting requirements. The role will require the individual to set expectations, identify best available technology, raise capability and support our sites through the wider SHE community.

 

Key Accountabilities: 

Supports the Business Strategy:As the Internal Environmental Subject Matter expert for UL operations.Works with stakeholders to set priorities in terms of identifying and limiting our emissions and releases in term of waste, water, air & soil pollutants.Identifies trends in national air pollution regulations and the business adapts accordingly to ensure compliance.Delivers continuous improvement in mitigation emissions and releases of pollutants, working within the SHE Expertise Platform Zero Harm to Planet, with SHE in Markets supporting the business and Green Engineers to leverage best practices and partnerships to accelerate results at site level.Partners with engineering via the relevant Technical Authority Platforms to further reduce our footprint and limit risk.Global Governance to drive strong SHE culturePartners with other SHE Capability Managers to drive culture change, with a focus on overall environmental protection.Works with SHE Reporting Team to design and operate a governance process to track company performance against all targets and commitments. Works across the matrix organization to ensure progress meets company expectations.Develop audit framework to ensure emission & release risks are identified, assessed, and mitigated appropriately.Oversees accuracy of governance tools needed for air emissions management such as: EPR, ESRS, PAR, SPR, SHEnet, MOC, RTVA, etc.Leads critical root cause investigations globally for complex incidents, sharing best practices and lessons learnt.Maintains the documented standards, policies, and practices to ensure SHE compliance with regulatory and Unilever expectations.Stays up to date with relevant reporting frameworks and ensures reporting teams are appropriately briefed on any updated requirements.Develops, reviews and refreshes SHE Standards and Basis of Preparations.​Deploys all new policies and standards related to Environment across the end-to-end system. Ensures robust implementation and compliance.Supports the UMS Environment & Sustainability pillar in material development and capability building for sites working with Supply Chain Academy (SCA)Prepares data and verbiage for internal and external company reports on pollutant emissions & releases ensuring accuracy and brand protection for disclosures such as: CDP, DJSI, ARA, UL website.Technical expert in specific area of pollution and emission related technologies including operational technologies relevant to the business groups.Builds Environmental compliance into Integration Process for Newly Acquired Businesses and Decentralized BusinessesOperates within the boundaries of SHE business expectations in cost, capital, and headcount.Supports sites with introduction and pilot of new technologies and innovation in the areas of environmental compliance and limiting emissions &releases.  

Professional Skills:

ESSENTIAL

University degree in science or engineering (Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Environmental Science preferred).Technology experience in (process or chemical) engineering, modelling, data analysis, manufacturing chemistries, environmental operations, environmental impact assessments, environmental risk mitigation.Knowledge in human behaviour and work processes associated with unplanned event management. Excellent knowledge of Unilever SHE standards and/or Regulatory permits.  Working knowledge using all core SHE IT tools and how those tools integrate into other functional work processes.Influencing skills and international business/cultural sensitivity, ability to influence strategic deliverables in a widely matrixed organization, ability to manage multiple requests and priorities simultaneously.Good observation and auditing skillsWorking experience with work processes in all functions in Unilever to best integrate all SHE standards and tools.2-5 years in Plant Operations/Chemical Engineering/R&DAppropriate functional/technical and project management expertiseStrong working knowledge of common pollutants and associated permits, measurement techniques, abatement technologies.Strong data analysis skills with high competency in MS Excel.Strong communication skills with English language fluency and high competency in MS PowerPoint.
