**Sheet Metal Mechanic - Career Opportunity - San Diego, CA** **Job Description** + We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our team and contribute to the installation and construction of various components on Naval ships. **Responsibilities** + Install bulkheads, ceiling panels, doors, trim, windows, rails, hardware, and other related construction activities. + Assist in the installation of insulation for compartment floors, ceilings, and interior/exterior walls. + Work with Tac welding and large sheet-metal pieces to position them before final welding. + Read and interpret blueprints to ensure accurate installation and assembly. + Fabricate, assemble, modify, install, and repair various sections into sheet metal products such as shipboard ventilation systems, housings, shields, metal partitions, metal furniture, and doors. + Utilize metalworking machines and precision instruments to meet specifications. + Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces. + Set up and operate machine tools such as press brakes, shears, punches, rollers, drill presses, vertical and horizontal band saws, and plasma machines to fabricate parts. + Verify conformance of fabricated layouts and items to blueprint specifications. **Essential Skills** + Ability to read and understand blueprints. + Knowledge of shipyard environments and Navy standards. + Minimum of 3+ years of marine experience. + Ability to obtain DBIDS. **Work Environment** + Work will be performed aboard various shipyard facilities in San Diego, CA, including Nassco, BAE, CMSD, North Island, and the Naval Base on 32nd Street. **Job Type & Location** + This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
