Shift Superintendent
Job Title: Shift Superintendent
Reports to: Operations Manager

Job Purpose
• Head up Operations shift team and take responsibility for the control and operation of the facility to ensure safe, efficient and reliable execution of all aspects of facility operation. 
• Control the operation of the their facility, covering both Gas Plant & Oil Plant, equipment, & associated Wellsites under the direction of the Operations Manager in accordance with the company HSEMS.
• Operate the Gas Plant and Oil Plant, via Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition 
(SCADA)) to deliver, on time, daily nominated import and export volumes of gas. 
• Optimise their facility performance, within the set parameters, and take corrective action to prevent abnormal conditions and ensure gas quality and export oil 
specifications are achieved.
• Supervise Central Control Room operations and act as Control Room Incident Controller.
• Maintain regular dialogue with National Gas (GNCC) & stakeholders.

Principal Responsibilities
• Operate and control inputs into DCS (via SCADA) to ensure energy transfers are achieved and take corrective action to prevent abnormal conditions that have an adverse 
effect on meeting daily nominations.
• Be responsible and Accountable for the overall daily monitoring and control of the Gas Plant, Oil Plant & associated Wellsites, ensuring that plant and equipment is operated in 
accordance with the relevant HSEMS performance standards
• On behalf of the Operations Manager, be responsible for the Shift Supervisor and Operators activities on a day-to-day basis, to assist them in fulfilling the requirement of their respective job specifications and adopting safe working practices
• Obtain, check and report daily figures to the Operations Manager, indicate projected status to meet nomination and rates, and advise on any potential shortfalls.
• Assist the Operations Manager in the production of daily, weekly and monthly reports by becoming fully conversant with the structure of the computerised reporting system.
• Lead comprehensive shift handover, both written and verbal, to communicate to the oncoming shift, details of ongoing operations and equipment status/availability in order to 
safeguard continuity of safety and environmental aspects.
• Ensure that all work activities are only undertaken after consideration of the potential to cause, injury or harm to persons, damage to property or the environment via the implementation of the Permit to Work system and associated work instructions.
• Identify and report all equipment defects and abnormalities on equipment and raise the necessary work request to ensure all defects are corrected promptly.
• Monitor and record running parameters of equipment.
• Act as incident controller for incident response to any abnormal or emergency situations that may arise, ensuring that all the procedures laid out by the company are followed.
• Take actions to prevent danger to onsite personnel, environment and neighbours
• Apply good housekeeping standards in all areas of work.
• Support a positive health, safety and environmental culture, offering improvement suggestions and participate in review of work practices and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience
• 5 -10 years’ experience in the supervision, operation and/or maintenance of high pressure Gas production facility or a top tier COMAH site. Practical experience in the use of distributed data control, IT and safety systems.
• A broad knowledge of the oil and gas production industry, understanding the parameters, which impact field performance and how changes may influence operations, production & maintenance.
• The confidence to communicate effectively with others, to take on overall responsibility and to be able to manage the thorough implementation of tasks through delegation.
• Ability to respond to and recover from unplanned shutdowns and/or emergency situations 
whilst observing safety and procedural constraints whist maintaining composure and a professional attitude.
• Ability to carry out routine inspection of the plant facilities and be able to identify areas of plant in need of repair or preventative maintenance.
• Ability to understand PFD’s, P&ID’s and Schematic drawings and translate into operating procedures.
• Ability to understand business and economic terms and to comprehend operation and business reports.
• Ideally hold a minimum of ONC or BTEC ordinary certificate in an engineering discipline.
• NVQ Level 4 Process Operations.
• NEBOSH - National Certificate in Oil and Gas Safety.
• Computer Literate
• Hold a current valid UK driving licence, be literate and numerate
Competencies
• Must be able to work with the minimum of supervision, plan and prioritise daily activities 
to ensure the process operates safely and efficiently.
• Must be a team player and participate in exchange of knowledge and communicate with all levels of management, commercial third parties, members of the public and all emergency services.
• Must be able to work within the team to resolve problems and take technical guidance.
