Position Overview: The Shift Superintendent at Arkema's Calvert City site is responsible for overseeing the entire plant during all shifts except the day shift during the week. This role ensures the safe, environmentally sound, and profitable operation of the plant. The Shift Superintendent serves as the incident commander for all off-shift plant emergencies and reports directly to the Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Supervise Production Operations: Oversee all production activities during the shift, ensuring that production targets for quantity, quality, and lead-time are met.
+ Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations. Promote a safe working environment and lead safety initiatives.
+ Team Leadership: Manage and motivate the production team, providing guidance, training, and support to operators. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
+ Resource Optimization: Optimize the use of plant resources, including equipment and materials, to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
+ Problem Solving: Address and resolve any issues that arise during the shift, including equipment malfunctions, production delays, and quality concerns.
+ Reporting: Maintain accurate records of production activities, incidents, and performance metrics. Prepare and submit shift reports to senior management.
+ Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance production efficiency and product quality.
Job Dimensions:
+ Safety: Ensure plant safety policies and practices are followed. Administer first aid for injuries and illnesses and serve as Incident Commander during off shifts.
+ Environmental Compliance: Maintain control of plant manufacturing processes to stay in compliance with environmental permits and regulations. Respond to any incidents with environmental implications and notify governmental agencies if necessary.
+ Operations: Monitor and take necessary action to ensure product quality meets customer expectations. Supervise process operations and troubleshoot operating problems.
+ Maintenance: Initiate plant repairs by locating necessary materials and supervising repairs. Call in additional qualified personnel if needed.
+ Human Resources: Administer HR policies and bargaining agreements for employees. Attend to personnel matters on off shifts.
+ Management: Report and record all off-shift plant activities to management.
Context and Environment: The incumbent works with Operations, Maintenance, Safety and Environmental, HR, and Engineering personnel to define support requirements and ensure resources are properly allocated to meet plant needs. Compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, safety, environmental, and quality standards, and corporate policies is essential.
Accountabilities:
+ Ensure compliance with Arkema, Inc. company policies and procedures.
+ Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and policies related to Safety, Environmental (Air, Water, and Waste), and Human Resources.
+ Ensure compliance with department fixed and variable cost budgets.
Qualifications:
+ Education: B.S. degree and/or experience in a chemical industry setting.
+ Experience: Must be a leader capable of taking charge in emergency situations and working well with people of varying disciplines.
+ Skills:
+ Strong leadership and team management abilities.
+ Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
+ Knowledge of chemical production processes and equipment.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with team members and senior management.
+ Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
+ Skills in first aid and CPR.
