Shift Supervisor (12 hour)
If you have what it takes to become part of the Vistra family and would like to start a promising career with a global leader, take a look at the exciting employment opportunities that are currently available and apply online. **Job Summary** Manage the overall plant operations on each shift as the single point of contact for the Moss Landing Power Plant to ensure the safe, reliable, and environmentally compliant production of bulk electrical energy. This position is also responsible for providing leadership, supervision and direction of power plant multi-skilled crews, and responsible for prioritizing and scheduling manpower, plant equipment and materials in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. The position may require some travel in the support of other Luminant Power Generation Stations and training. **Job Description** • Manages overall plant operations on each shift as single point of contact. • Provides direct supervision of first-line supervisors and multi-skilled crew while also being responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the power plant. • Ensures that Plant operations are in accordance with the environmental limits, operational limits and conditions and operating procedures. • Ensures full compliance of all NERC/CIP requirements for operating crew. • Coordinates the activities of the operations, chemistry, maintenance and technical support groups to accomplish the operating objectives of the shift. • Oversees infrequently performed plant evolutions, such as plant startup and shutdown, physical tests, cool down • Performs plant inspections to identify and correct problems involving the performance of personnel, policies and procedures, housekeeping, material conditions and hazards to personnel; to ensure that deficiencies are identified and corrective action is initiated. • Oversees and manages equipment clearances and work permits. • Coordinates and executes on-shift maintenance activities to minimize equipment and system downtime. • Initiates an assessment of any unusual occurrence and take the first steps necessary to minimize the consequences, to ensure the protection and safety of personnel and to initiate the action required by the emergency plan; act as the senior emergency coordinator until relieved by higher management authority. • Ensures preparation of reports of abnormal events and reportable occurrences. •Supervisor may be asked to respond to emergency call out situations and assist in trouble shooting of system problems • Authorizes temporary alterations and the use of jumpers and lifted leads and initiate appropriate engineering reviews of such items when required. • Authorizes the removal from service of systems and components for maintenance, testing and/or operational activities and their subsequent return to service. • Reviews shift records for accuracy, completeness and trends and to maintain the shift supervisor’s log • Leads Plan of Day Meeting with a review of the following: o Safety o Environmental issues o Housekeeping o Operational concerns o Deratings o Critical Equipment out of service o New TAPS o Alarms Review o Fuel Plan o Review scheduled maintenance for the day o Review any planned inspections, tests, or tours • Provides clear direction and leadership for continuous improvement initiatives (ROI/HPI). • Effectively manages employee/labor relation in accordance with Luminant policies and labor agreements. • Ensures a thorough shift turn-over is completed at the beginning and end of the shift for shift manager, unit supervisors, and all operation crews. • Coordinates and approves fuel changes from the shift plan • Communicates overall plant needs with all departments through meetings, one on one discussion, and/or any other communication tools to ensure successful plant operations. Maintenance, testing, tours or potential disruptions to the approved pre-shift plan must go through and be approved by the Shift Supervisor Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements Minimal background and knowledge requirements: + High school diploma or GED equivalent + Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to some of the skills listed + 5 years of power generation plant experience or related experience + Proficient computer skills + Must be able to work a 12 hour rotating shift + Work will be in an office environment, as well as "hard-hat" areas (dust, noise, heat, cold). + Working at heights, on elevated grating, scaffolding, sky climbers, etc. + Working in tight, confined spaces + Must be able to climb stairs and ladders Preferred background and knowledge requirements: • Power Plant Operations experience. • Supervisory experience in a generating plant • Experience in administration of labor agreement • Experience in using Maximo for planning work, creating purchase requests, and creating job plans Necessary Skills For this position the following Luminant leadership skills/abilities must be demonstrated at a proficient level: • Interpersonal Effectiveness • Culture Fit • Leading and Managing Performance • Drive for Results • Change Management • Business and Intellectual Capability **Compensation:** Base salary starts at $130,000 and up, depending upon experience.
