We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As our Shift Supervisor Mining your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Manage a secure and safe work environment where employees can deliver their outputs within a controlled work environment, free from harmKeep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance with our operating licenseEscalate any operational and SHE-related matters in time to the responsible Section Managers / Manager Mining(s)Quality Control: Maintain quality control measures to ensure that materials fed into the processing plant meet required standards and specificationsEquipment Supervision: Maintain and manage the operation of equipment used in the mining operations area and material transport, ensuring optimal performance and addressing issues promptlyCommunication: Maintain effective communication with team members, supervisors, and other departments to relay information, address challenges, and ensure a coordinated workflowData Recording: Record and maintain accurate data related to mining operations activities, material quantities, and quality metrics for reporting and analysisProblem Resolution: Address and resolve operational challenges, technical issues, and discrepancies within mining operationsShift Reporting: Prepare comprehensive shift reports detailing activities, accomplishments, challenges, and any incidents or deviations from standard proceduresTraining and Development: Provide guidance and support to team members, facilitating training sessions as needed to enhance skills and knowledge within the teamProcess Optimization: Collaborate with relevant teams to optimise block preparation and material feeding processes, improving efficiency and productivitySustainability and Social: Execute the delivery of sustainability activities relevant to the disciplineComply with environmental and social requirements as relevant to the disciplineImplement environmental and social risk mitigation techniquesImplement sustainability initiatives relevant to the work area and progress reportAct consistently with sustainability expectationsEnsure a purpose-led, high-performing culture, applying the company values and principles of inclusion and diversityActively engage as a team member in all team processesProvide input for a draft of communication materials to understand the operation's goals and directionsImplement management processes within the work areaAssign tasks to ensure sufficient coverage for team members, accounting for planned leave and absenteeismReview task performance and manage underperformance as appropriateEnsure participation in required training (e.g., safety, compliance, refresher, etc.)Provide coaching and appropriate feedback to individuals and teams across all shiftsAdhere to Anglo American compliance requirements and ensure compliance of the teamConduct site inspections to identify and escalate non-complianceConduct investigation of incidents (safety, health, environmental and social) within the work area.Follow the appropriate process and establish the root causeIdentify, report on and escalate incidents properly and promptlyClose out incidents, capture and implement learningsShare learnings within teams across all shifts

This role is in Mining (MIN) department on a band 7.8 level reporting to the Shift Coordinator

QualificationsGrade 12 / N3 certificateDiploma or equivalent qualification in Mining (Advantage)SA Drivers LicenceCompetency ADMRE approved Blasting CertificateA2 Safety Training and Legal Liability (Advantage)

 

Technical Knowledge

Knowledge of operational processes within the scope of the roleBasic understanding of commercial explosive products and their properties, including initiation systemsDocumentation, sign-off and approval processesRisk management techniques and critical controlsLeadership tools for implementing a culture of purpose-led, high-performance and changeSafety, health and environment, legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements Experience3 years relevant experience
