Shift Supervisor (Power Plant)
**Job Description** **Position Title:** Shift Supervisor (Power Plant) **OPEN UNTIL FILLED** **Department/Location:** Office of Chief Ops Officer; Leland Olds Station/Stanton, ND **Company:** Basin Electric Power Cooperative **Position Purpose:** This position coordinates the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Leland Olds Station boilers, scrubbers, and generating equipment to economically produce electricity. **This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.** **Essential Functions:** + Review station operation logs of the past 24 hours, receive general operating condition updates from the preceding shift, and be informed of any special situations which may exist. Brief the crew emphasizing areas which require special attention or require special operating procedures. Inspect the boiler and auxiliary equipment and assess the unit's operating condition. Record these observations and equipment operational status in the Shift Supervisor's electronic log. + Determine what controls are to be tagged; complete the tag-out form; and assign placing of tags and disabling of equipment to the appropriate crewmember. Ensure that personnel working on the equipment have released it for operation and have signed the tag-out form release before tags are removed and equipment is placed in operation. + Aid crewmembers in determining what caused operational problems and what procedures should be taken to resolve the problem. Work with the crew to rectify emergency situations as quickly as possible. Question the crewmembers reporting equipment malfunctions to ensure the equipment has been adequately checked and the problem area determined accurately. + Receive transmission line switching orders from Department of Energy (DOE) dispatchers for completeness and unit safety; execute the orders in either Unit #1 or #2 switchyard; and confirm the completion of the operation by informing the DOE dispatchers on the time each operation was performed. Record all switching operations in the appropriate logbook, and supervise all switching for line maintenance at Leland Olds Station by Basin Electric's Transmission System Maintenance division (TSM). Inform the TSM division daily of the status of all breakers in the station switchyards and the line conditions in the stations control room. In case of a system disturbance, log any switchyard relay targets and relay the information to the TSM division. **Qualifications** **:** + Knowledge of plant operations. + High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED). + Seven years of operating experience in a coal-based generating station or a similar facility. Mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, or engineering experience will also be considered. + Previous experience acting as a lead, in a step-up role, or prior supervisory experience is required. + Excellent written and communication skills + Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word and Outlook. + Able to effectively motivate employees and foster collaboration. + A valid driver’s license. + Resume required. + The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this job. The incumbent will be working with tools and a computer. This position requires the ability to speak, analyze data/reports, conduct research, implement recommendations, and supervise others. The incumbent must be able to develop plans, accomplish goals, evaluate the performance of others, present information, and work under pressure to meet deadlines. This position requires finger dexterity, hand coordination, and good color vision/hearing. The incumbent will occasionally be required to work around dirt/dust, fumes, chemicals, areas of extreme heat/cold, vibration/noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, confined areas, and at heights up to 600 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards.
