Shipping Supervisor

As the Shipping Supervisor, you will be a vital member at one of our Alaskan processing facilities that oversees the operation of the shipping department while ensuring the staff follows GMP and safety policies to produce a high-quality, frozen salmon product. The position works closely with the Production Manager, AML drivers and the Case-up Department to ensure a smooth, consistent, quick-paced transition of product from Case-Up to its designated van. Additionally, the Shipping Supervisor is responsible for thorough documentation of all products loaded into containers, tracking of containers incoming and outgoing, as well as Quality Control documentation.  

Essential Functions/Qualifications  

The responsibilities of the position include the following:  

Supervision of a crew ranging from 10-20 employees.  Regular and effective communication with all departments to maintain and efficient flow of production.  Thorough documentation of Quality Assurance related paperwork including but not limited to van temp log, daily van log, and van inspection logs.  Communication with the QA department to take immediate action when necessary to provide a safe product.  Monitor attendance schedule of staff using attendance sheets provided by Production Manager.  Train employees of proper working ergonomics in addition to their assigned tasks and specific techniques. Provide guidance and trains staff for each job station.  Set an example for the department staff in work ethic, safety protocol and attitude.  Thorough and accurate tally of product as well as a double check by means of Inventory Management System.  Use of IMS to create and add products to vans therefore allowing effective use of scanner system.  Clear and frequent communication with van carriers to ensure smooth shipment and receival of vans.  Create Bill of Ladings, seal, sticker and ship vans.   Document loaded product on assigned shipping documents and confirm all paperwork is accurate before submitting to Data Checker or Shipping and Logistics Coordinator in Seattle office.  Take corrective action to address mechanical issues or safety hazards with Production Manager and Chief Engineer as needed. Other duties are to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

Education and Experience  

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required.  6-9 months related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with shipping software and systems, such as transportation management systems (TMS) or warehouse management systems (WMS), is advantageous. Previous experience in Seafood or Manufacturing preferred. 

Work Environment and Schedule   

The Shipping Supervisor is regularly exposed to moving machinery and is frequently exposed to a full spectrum of outside weather conditions from wet/humid conditions with extreme cold to dry sunny conditions with exposure to direct sunlight. The position is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times. Position requires onsite presence at one of our Alaska processing facilities, and the ability to travel, including at times to remote locations. 

Physical Demands   

While performing the essential function and job duties associated with the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
