We are a team of market analysts, hydrologists, meteorologists, and data scientists, all working together on the trading floor. This role directly impacts the company’s ability to navigate the evolving energy market, maximize opportunities in renewable integration, and contribute to the energy transition by optimizing market operations and asset performance.
Main activities:
As a Power Market Analyst, you will:
Monitor and analyze power market trends, focusing on week-ahead, day-ahead, ancillary, intraday, and imbalance markets. Collaborate closely with traders and portfolio managers, providing real-time insights and price forecasts that drive decision-making. Develop and use advanced analytics, machine learning models, and data science techniques to optimize trading and asset performance. Lead key projects, ensuring effective resource management and communication across teams.
Hard Skills:
In-depth knowledge of power markets, with expertise in intraday and imbalance markets. Experience in trading or operating assets in wholesale and/or ancillary service markets is a plus. Strong decision-making skills for optimization and trading strategies at GEMS. Advanced Python skills with experience in data science/machine learning and model development. Experience in stochastic/deterministic optimization models and familiarity with cloud tools (e.g., AWS) and advanced visualization platforms.

Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex issues and models to diverse audiences. Ability to thrive in a multicultural and fast-paced environment. Strong team spirit, collaborative approach, and humility. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Creativity, initiative, autonomy, and the ability to handle tight deadlines with composure. A proactive mindset with the drive to identify and solve complex problems.

Education and professional background:
Master degree or PhD in relevant area (engineering, mathematics, physics, etc.) At least 5 years with experience in power markets
Languages:
Fluent in English. Dutch and French are a plus

Regular travels
