Job Summary

The Safety Management System (SIMS) Data Analyst delivers on our Purpose by performing analysis of Safety and operational data, determining and monitoring performance exceedance triggers, and reporting results for the SIMS. This role collaborates with other SIMS Team Analysts to transform various data sources such as injury and damage data, flight data, and safety reporting data. The SIMS Data Analyst is a strategic thinker who is excited to collaborate with many Teams and make a meaningful impact on Southwest.

ResponsibilitiesAnalyze data for trends and anomalies and then prepare reports for Senior ManagementCollect, analyze, and interpret Safety information to determine cause and effect relationships to develop qualitative and quantitative analyses, aimed at reducing injuries to people and damage to equipment and brandDevelop, maintain, and deliver daily, weekly, monthly, and annual statistical as well as ad hoc reports use for trend analysis to meet corporate and organizational needs and requirementsPrepare reports to comply with regulatory requirements including but not limited to A4A, FAA, OSHA, and the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS)Work with Stakeholders and business partners to maintain strong relationships to guarantee objectives and goals are metMay perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesIntermediate knowledge of principals and methods of querying & blending data, visualizing trends and anomalies, applied statistics, hypothesis testing & research design, natural language processing, phrasing complex statistical methods in a simple way for Senior LeadershipIntermediate knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and servicesSkilled in understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-makingSkilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing and assimilating data including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization softwareSkilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problemsSkilled in written and verbal communicationSkilled in analytics with the ability to break down and analyze various types of data (e.g. Employee reporting, injury & damage data, and flight data) across the enterpriseSkilled in using Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Alteryx and R) and/or flight data analysis software (e.g. GE Event Measurement System)Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rulesEducationRequired: High School diploma or GED

ExperienceIntermediate level experience, fully functioning broad knowledge in:Business process development (analysis, design, and/or programming)Developing and supporting technology applicationsWorking with data and database managementDeveloping data reporting toolsWorking with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Alteryx, R, or similar) and/or flight data analysis software (e.g. GE Event Measurement System)Preferred: Experience in Python, Alteryx, Tableau

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $82,800 - $92,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
