Summary :The Simulation Education Specialist is responsible for providing the daily departmental and operational direction in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of simulation activities. The Simulation Education Specialist is responsible for ensuring that faculty, clinical educators, and staff follow established processes and support data-driven decisions in the development and execution of simulation center educational objectives.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The Simulation Education Specialist works collaboratively with GME, Nursing Excellence and Education, and ThedaStar Leadership, including faculty and staff, as well as hospital administration to drive simulation activities and operations. The Simulation Education Specialist will employ a high degree of judgment and independence to effectively solve problems, build strong internal and external relationships, deliver well-designed processes, and maintain a thorough and organized simulation model. The Simulation Education Specialist provides oversight of simulation programs to ensure a positive learning environment that advances the learning objectives of education within ThedaCare. The Simulation Specialist provides simulation curricular and assessment guidance for educational activities and oversees data collection to evaluate learning outcomes that comply with best practice standards for simulation requirements. This positions also manages the utilization of simulation resources to ensure fidelity of curricula and assessments involving simulation modalities and enhances team and collaborative practice concepts with program directors, faculty, staff and simulation education leaders. This position will include some travel to support more than one site within ThedaCare, so ability to be onsite at these facilities is required.

Core job functions:

Develop the annual simulation budget by gathering, analyzing and synthesizing appropriate data and reports. Coordinate and supervise simulation general operations to meet system needs and applicable regulatory standardsMaintain awareness of current practices in healthcare simulation training to provide a variety of patient simulation experiences to meet the needs of the learner. Including familiarity with current regional and national health-care guidelines & protocols (e.g., ACLS/PALS, ATLS, STEMI, CVA) Experience and strong technical skills in operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining simulation, clinical and audiovisual equipment. Provide leadership evidence-based recommendations for the purchase of simulation equipment and required supplies while anticipating future technological and clinical advancementsIndependently plan and implement special projects. Manage the simulation evaluation and review process. Provide both group and individual mentoring of best practices in simulation pedagogy to faculty, clinical educators, and staff across all programs. Work closely with senior leaders to prepare supporting documentation as required for educational program accreditation standards. Ensure department alignment with organizational strategic goals and key results. Develop and implement policies, procedures and practice standards consistent with simulation mission and educational objectives. Hire, train, and manage other ThedaCare simulation staff as approved, including Standardized Patients (SPs) for simulation scenarios.Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with internal and external personnel, partners, stakeholders and constituents, including outside agencies and vendors. Participate in appropriate national organizations to keep abreast of new concepts to provide optimal and continually updated technologies and service to meet the needs of simulation education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

HIGHLY PREFERRED EXPERIEINCE

In depth knowledge in SSH simulation accreditation and standards Knowledge of Graduate Medical Education simulation. Knowledge of related discipline simulation needs  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION/EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree. (Required, Masters Preferred)Minimum two years’ experience in simulation-based mastery learning or related clinical educationMinimum two years’ experience in simulation operations tech.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION/EDUCATION

Society for Simulation in Healthcare Certification, (CHSOS or CHSE, preferred but may obtain within first 12 months of employment

SKILLS

Ability to think strategically, critically analyze and synthesize data and scientific information Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects Ability to plan and execute complex educational initiatives, including developing work plans, promotion plans, schedules, budgets.

Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift, move, maintain, setup all necessary equipment up to 50 lbs. without assistanceJob classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
