Simulation Senior Associate Engineer- Combustion

Role Definition: This position is in CFD and Engine Performance team which provides CFD simulation support for Caterpillar Business Units around the globe. This position provides aerodynamics, heat transfer and combustion prediction/analysis support to the Gas turbine Combustion Engineering Department for design/analysis of our full line of combustion liners and fuel injectors. Assist with application to Solar Turbines products of associated gas, low and medium wobble gases, and other exotic fuel compositions. Duties include injector aerodynamics design and one-dimensional flow analysis of combustion systems. This job also requires injector thermal analysis using the ANSYS thermal software. The successful candidate will have the following qualities and qualifications: + Self-motivated, strong aptitude and demonstrated track record in the gas turbine applications. + Experience in aerodynamics, heat transfer, and combustion instability is preferrable. + Advanced knowledge of combustion system design principles including thermal and fluid science. + Willing to learn and run rig validation testing of combustion systems. + Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of an engineering team. Minimum Qualifications: + The applicant should have a MS, PhD, or equivalent with 3 to 5 Years of industrial experience. + Experience in Gas turbine combustion modeling, aerodynamic and heat transfer design/analysis experience. + The candidate should have experience in the use of commercial 1D flow network codes; experience with Flownex is a plus. + The applicant should demonstrate a strong working knowledge of three-dimensional simulation tools for aerodynamics and heat transfer. + The candidate should have experience in the use of commercial CFD codes, such Star CCM, Cascade, Converge or similar. + Strong experience in utilizing ML and Deep Learning models in predicting combustion behavior will be valuable. + Strong background in Coding is a must, experience in Python and C++ is a plus.
