The Traffic SRE team is responsible for delivering LinkedIn products and services to everyone on the Internet. Our team operates the edge of LinkedIn’s data centers with a massive infrastructure that serves over 1 Billion members and Millions requests per second. We develop and manage Layer 4 and Layer 7 network proxies, load balancers, service discovery, monitoring and CI/CD pipelines. Traffic engineers work to solve challenging problems at the pace of LinkedIn’s accelerating growth. It’s highly-visible work that impacts our site every day, and we try to do it in a way that makes our lives easier. In this highly visible role, you will work with the various members of the engineering teams guiding technologies, product feature definitions, implementation and tradeoffs, and architecture definition. The candidate should have a strong technical background and experience leading medium-sized teams. This role will be based in Bangalore, India. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team. Responsibilities: - Manage the performance and career development of a small team of engineers, and own significant parts of this infrastructure, which will require design, architecture, and coding. - Scale the company’s infrastructure to handle massive data growth across the ecosystem. - Develop a long-term technology road map - The candidate will be responsible for designing and - developing storage system design and consumption strategies. - Utilize communication skills in interacting with peer groups & drive technical presentations. - Maintain relationships with user groups, stay apprised of future projects, project growth, schedule activities, and be a trusted contact point. - Adapt to the ever-evolving industry; learn and scrutinize new technologies, and envision its possible application towards the LinkedIn mission. - Interface with vendors and support staff to manage projects from inception through completion. - Facilitate automation of infrastructure setup and incident response. Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of relevant engineering work experience - 1+ year(s) of management experience or 1+ year(s) of staff level engineering experience with management training - 2+ years experience with operating and troubleshooting Linux at scale. - Programming skills (Go, C/C++, Python, Rust, Java) Preferred Qualifications: - 5+ years in a UNIX-based large-scale web operations role. Experience with Kubernetes, Azure, On-prem. - Experience with reverse proxies / load balancers (ATS, HAProxy, IPVS, etc..), TCP/IP networking. - Experience with C/C++ / Go / Python server development, performance, and troubleshooting. - Knowledge of most of these: data structures, relational and non-relational databases, networking, Linux internals, filesystems, web architecture, and related topics. - Experience leading cross-functional teams engaged in storage system design and deployment. - Strong written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management. - Effective project leadership abilities to plan, organize, and motivate others to achieve objectives within challenging timelines and situations of uncertainty. - Experience with IP networking: IP addressing, switching, routing, VLANs, firewalls, IPV6 Previous experience working with geographically distributed teams.
