Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)
Overview The Site Safety and Health Officer’s primary duty and responsibility is to prepare and enforce the Contractor’s safety program in accordance with the contract detailing how the Contractor plans, staffs, performs, and controls all safety practices while delivering best value services to the Government without any accidents or mishaps. Responsibilities Develop and implement an Accident Prevention Plan (APP) Develop and implement all applicable compliance plans such as Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Plan, Chemical Hazard Communication Program, Confined Space Program, Critical Lift Plan, Fall Prevention and Protection Plan, Pathogen Exposure, and Control of Hazardous Energy (lockout/tagout) Prepare Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for all applicable common recurring work as well as non-recurring work activities Conduct on-going evaluations of the APP throughout the life of the project to ensure is current and site-specific. Report to corporate safety official, senior PM, or corporate official Ensure all project personnel comply with applicable safety requirements (including subcontractors and visitors) Conduct daily inspections and maintain deficiency tracking system Ensure all safety submittals required are created, submitted and approved by the GDA well in advance of scheduled preparatory meetings Be available on site whenever work is being performed and perform site inspections and observations through the entirety of the shift Provide and keep a record of project safety orientations and briefs for all V2X employees and subcontractors Document Weekly Safety Meetings, Weekly Inspections, Deficiencies and Corrective Actions, Man Hours Worked and any Incident Lead and document Near Miss and Incident Investigations performing Root Cause Analysis Qualifications Education / Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. At least five years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity in the past or three years’ experience if they possess a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or safety and health degree 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent Experience: Maintain competency through 24 hours of formal safety and health related coursework every four years In depth understanding of safety programs and procedures and relevant legal standards Skills & Technology Used: Conscientious and responsible A keen eye for details Outstanding communication skills Excellent organizational and leadership skills Fluent in English Must have a valid driver’s license We are committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace that values and supports the contributions of each individual.
