SUMMARY

The Site Safety Specialist (SSS) provides support for a Data Center EHS program to strengthen safety advocacy and assure environmental, health and safety compliance across the site to which they are assigned. They are responsible for the day to day Environmental, Health & Safety tasks, implementing new safety programs, assessing site related risks, and delivering training to security officers, supervisors and other site personnel.  Experience in auditing and performing tasks associated with an occupational safety program is required. Outstanding communication and written skills are required; experience self-motivating within an existing framework as well as project management is extremely helpful. The role is highly collaborative in nature offering support to multiple work groups. 

Essential Functions

Instructs Security Officers, Supervisor, and other employees in safety, legally mandated, and company mandated training requirements; ensures compliance with and documents the training requirements of client contract(s). Delivers a variety of courses that may include new employee orientation, on-the-job training, health and safety practices, customer service techniques, supervisory development, and security practices. Demonstrates ownership by adhering to the safety and security standards, policies, and best practices of the site. Follows established training policies, programs and schedules to conduct courses; coordinates training activities so as not to conflict with client service schedules. Uses appropriate instructional procedures or methods, such as individual training, group

instruction, self-study, lectures, demonstrations, simulation exercises, role-playing, and computer-based training

Distributes training manuals; administers tests and evaluations; coordinates reference library,

multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.

Maintain knowledge of local safety and health rules and regulations with understanding of regional rolls. Maintain ISO, OSHA equivalent and/or ICS certification as required. Implement provided Health and Safety programs at the site level including but not limited to: Site metrics Regulatory documentation H&S audits and risk assessments Safety training Incident investigation Ergonomic evaluations Implement and enforce new safety programs supported by the Data Center Health and Safety Manager Investigate employee safety concerns supported by the Data Center Health and Safety Manager Reports any deficiencies in the above to the DCHS Manager. Responds timely to additional requests from the DCHS Manager. Coordinates the emergency response from Client personnel and vendors  Recruit and train Active Emergency Response Team (ALERT) members Coordinates emergency practice sessions Collaborates with the landlord team to assist in evacuation drills Report information as required to the DCHS Manager Respond as needed during “after hours” emergencies.  Conduct incident investigations and complete reports to appropriate party. Deploy awareness training to promote safety culture in the workplace. Maintain site EHS metrics and distribute as required.  Collaborate with the security, datacenter operations, and datacenter engineering teams to monitor standards and regulations. Process documents and report periodically to program management teams to identify hidden risks or nonconformity issues. Conduct regular (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual) audits and inspections in a timely manner and submit to the appropriate party. Track and report progress on corrective and preventative actions arising from monitoring activities and incidents.  Make sure sites have easy access to EHS documentation such as Safety Data Sheet binder, Evacuation maps, etc.  Using provided meeting technology, schedule and facilitate a variety of meetings and webinars to disseminate gathered information. Maintain a client service approach to problem solving to health and safety concerns. This list is partial.  Other tasks deemed important to the furthering of EHS at site may be assigned and are part of the job requirements.  The SSS as a Securitas employee may support the security function with additional EHS responsibilities.

MINIMUM HIRING STANDARDS:

Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a reliable means of communication. Must have a reliable means of transportation (public or private) Must have the legal right to work in the United States. Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English. Must have a High School Diploma or GED  Must be willing to participate in the Company’s pre-employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

BS/BA in safety management or related field, or equivalent experience, or recognized accreditation.    Experience in higher risk safety environments (Ex:  construction, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals) Subject Matter Expert on a variety of local, state, and regional safety regulations  Experience with ISO 45001 a plus Certified Safety Professional (CSP) a plus Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures  Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, OneNote, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, Smartsheets as well as SharePoint.

 

COMPETENCIES (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing):

Successful completion of Train-the-Trainer (or equivalent) requirements ACT Program Certification (or equivalent) Skill in the delivery of training programs in multiple settings Ability to understand the security as well as safety service needs and devise appropriate training strategies. In the event of unclear instruction, must have the ability to ask for clarification without prompting.  Excellent problem-solving skills Competent writer; exhibits knowledge of spelling, grammar, and punctuation.  Experience working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented workplace where judgment and professionalism were necessities.  Capably work under pressure while maintaining a professional image and approach with both internal and external customers.  Thorough understanding of standard office procedures and practices.  Ability to create and revise documentation with a variety of stakeholders.  Ability to thrive in a detail-oriented environment with quickly changing requirements.  Demonstrated ability to quickly learn unfamiliar areas of business.  Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.  Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.  Ability to be an effective team member and handle projects responsibly.  Strong customer and results orientation.  Ability to multi-task.
