Overview The Sunday River Ski Patrol Director will lead a team that manages on-hill risk, executes mountain rescues, responds to emergencies, and provides a safe and welcoming environment to the public. The Ski Patrol Director is responsible for staff safety and compliance, the financial performance of the department, interdepartmental communication, establishing policy and procedure for the Patrol team, and developing future leaders for the organization. The ideal candidate will exercise sound judgment considering the effects on other departments and the company and will seek to maximize the value of the Team Member experience and the department’s contributions to the success of the resort. Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Manage 15 area foremen, 4 Patrol Supervisors, 1 Assistant patrol director and approximately 110 front line and volunteer patrollers and Mountain Hosts, and the participants in the Gould Academy Patrol Program. The Patrol Director is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit, including: Interviewing, hiring, scheduling, and terminating team members Planning, assigning and directing work Performance evaluations, rewarding and disciplining Encourage professional development and certification among Team Members Addressing complaints and resolving issues within the patrol team Training patrollers in on hill safety, first aid, lift evacuations, liabilities, guest relations, and regulation enforcement. Maintain accurate records of incidents, injuries, and medical treatments. Establish standards and procedures for the ski patrol team. Investigate all guest and employee incidents. Directly interact with guests, provide them with information, and respond to complaints and emergencies on the property. Maintain contact with other departments for information on trail status, snow conditions, injuries, visibility problems, and special events. Monitor weather conditions, terrain, and other factors to assess and mitigate potential risks Assign regular safety inspections of slopes, trails, and facilities. Develop and implement employee training programs and departmental safety policies and procedures in accordance with industry standards. Collaborate with local emergency services and medical personnel as needed. Manage departmental budgets, expenses, and inventory of supplies and equipment, order as necessary. Prepare reports and presentation for management and regulatory agencies as required. This position is full-time year-round. Work will be 60% outside, and 40% inside, and require exposure to harsh weather conditions in the winter and summer. All other tasks as assigned Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age High School Diploma Must have an EMT, WFR, or OEC certification or greater at time of hire. Within the first 2 seasons, attain and maintain current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certification Current healthcare provider CPR/AED certification Expert-level ski or snowboard ability Comfortable working with children and adults of all ages Leadership knowledge and ability Calm, professional demeanor; inclusive; accepting Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Confidence in handling stressful situations, including difficult guest interactions Proficiency in operating snowmobiles, rescue toboggans, and other specialized equipment Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekend and holidays, in a dynamic and challenging environment Five or more seasons as a ski patroller One or more seasons in a patrol management role Benefits & Compensation Competitive salary range from $75k to $85k plus inclusion in bonus program, with opportunities for professional growth and advancement Team Member Perks include: Free Ski and Golf Passes for self and dependents, and access to other Boyne Resorts Resort discounts on dining, retail, lodging, and spa Access to affordable Team Member housing Benefits package includes health insurance, 401 (k) plan, HSA match, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, and PTO.
