Job Details Job ID: 5135611 Job Description Position Title: Skilled Trades Foreman Salary Range: Regionally Competitive FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director of Facilities/Director of Service Building Supervises: Grounds, General Mechanics and Skilled Trades Summary: The Skilled Trades Foreman is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling school general mechanic operations to ensure that all facilities and equipment are maintained and utilized at optimal levels. This position involves overseeing general repair projects, managing a team of general mechanics and helpers, and coordinating the preventative maintenance program. The Skilled Trades Foreman will work closely with school administrators to ensure the efficient use of resources, safety standards, and adherence to maintenance schedules. Characteristics of Work Types of Activities Performed Frequently: Planning, developing, estimating, and controlling general repair projects; providing follow-up on projects; working with school administrators. Assist with the development of an on-going program of preventative maintenance. Types of Activities Performed Occasionally: The Skilled Trades Foreman is responsible for developing specifications for general repair supplies, attending professional meetings, and assisting in the planning of capital building fund projects. They are involved in planning, developing, and estimating general mechanic projects while working closely with school supervisors and administrators. Additionally, the Foreman recommends supplies, tools, and materials for the general mechanic department and provides input for Capital Project Fund planning. They also assist with the operation and planning of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to ensure the optimal functioning of school facilities and equipment. Basic Function: The basic function of the Skilled Trades Foreman is to plan, organize, direct, and control school general mechanic operations to ensure that facilities and equipment are utilized at optimal levels at all times. This includes overseeing repairs, troubleshooting issues, and installing necessary general repairs to maintain the efficient operation of the school’s facilities and equipment. Responsibilities General Repair Planning & Project Management + Plan, develop, estimate, and control general repair projects, ensuring successful follow-up and completion. + Work with school administrators to align repair projects with overall school operations and needs. + Assist in the development and execution of an ongoing preventative maintenance program. + Plan, develop, and estimate general mechanical projects, recommending supplies and tools for the department. + Recommend Capital Project Fund planning and assist in the operation and planning of a preventative maintenance program. Supervision & Leadership + Provide leadership and support to staff, fostering cooperation and positive performance outcomes. + Assists in the supervision of the daily activities of the general mechanic and mechanic’s helper staff, ensuring operations are performed according to established policies and procedures. + Respond to emergency calls as needed and maintain responsibility for departmental tools and equipment Material & Supplies Management + Develop specifications for general mechanic materials, tools, and supplies required for repairs and special projects. + Develop and submit specifications for general mechanic materials, supplies, tools, special projects, and emergency needs. + Recommend new maintenance products, materials, supplies, and tools to improve operational efficiency. + Assist with in-service training programs to improve staff knowledge and skills. Cost Management & Estimation + Create and submit cost estimates, sketches, and bills of materials for general mechanic work, excluding emergency jobs. + Review cost statements for completed jobs, explaining variances when necessary. + Visit project sites to assess progress, identify additional maintenance needs, and ensure projects are on track. Work Order & Documentation Oversight + Oversee the work order system for the general mechanic department, ensuring proper filing and documentation. + Assure that all forms in the general mechanic department are properly filed. + Develop and submit specifications for general mechanic materials, supplies, tools, special projects, and emergency needs. Other Duties + Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications + Required Experience or Training: A high school education is required, with a minimum of two years of experience as a general mechanic or four years as a mechanic’s helper, including two years in building and grounds maintenance. A valid CDL license is required, and the ability to lift up to 60 pounds is essential. + Desired Experience or Training: Six years of experience in the general mechanic field, including post-secondary training related to general repair, is preferred. Experience in project management and supervision is also beneficial. + Special Requirements: A general knowledge of construction trade methods and practices as they apply to school facilities. Ability to estimate and control maintenance costs and stimulate cooperation among subordinates and fellow employees.
