Slavic Languages Cataloger
LAC Federal is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Slavic Languages Cataloger to join our team. As a Slavic Languages Cataloger, you will be responsible for cataloging our collection of books in the Slavic Languages for a major federal library. You will create and update cataloging records in an Integrated Library System (ILS), ensuring that they are accurate and complete. Work Hours: Flexible - on-site with the possibility of remote work Office Location: Washington, D.C. - Orange/Gray/Blue Line Job Status: Long-term Contract - full-time and part time schedules available. Full-time position is eligible for benefits. Note: Work is paid by piece rate. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Create Original, Enhanced Minimum Level, and Copy Cataloging records for collections of Slavic Languages material in various subject areas + Efficiently catalog Slavic languages titles by supplying required metadata in MARC21 compliant bibliographic records. + Classify the collection of monograph materials. + Create and update records in an ILS cataloging system, ensuring accuracy and completeness in alignment with NACO standards. + Assist with recommendations regarding new subject headings and/or classification numbers. + Stay up-to-date with developments in cataloging standards and best practices. Requirements + Master's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution. + Advanced knowledge of the Slavic Languages + At least 3 years of experience in cataloging. + Proven experience in transliteration. + Strong knowledge of cataloging standards, including but not limited to RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LCC and MARC21, BIBCO and NACO. + Familiarity with various library management systems such as Voyager (preferred), ILS, OCLC Connexion, Classification Web, Cataloger's Desktop, and the LC Authorities list. + Hands-on experience with metadata and taxonomies for catalog collections. + Excellent written and oral communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. + Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment. + Strong analytical, detailed orientation, and prioritization skills.· Benefits + Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision) + Retirement Plan (401k, IRA) + Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D) + Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays) + Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity) + Short Term & Long Term Disability + Training & Development + Wellness Resources
