The SMA Sales Specialist is a field-based sales associate aligned with Capital Group’s Divisional Sales teams. The role will work closely with SMA Product Management, Asset Class Services leads, and the Equity and Fixed Income Investment Groups. As the field-based SMA-focused sales associate, this person will be responsible for delivering point of sale expertise in representing Capital Group/American Funds’ SMA strategies to financial advisors.
Responsibilities:
Identify, prioritize and schedule territory travel; gain an understanding of and prioritize the highest opportunity zones and coverage frequency within the territory.
Actively participate as an SMA sales and investment resource for sales force members in their territories; the expectation is that the position will require a minimum of 2-3 days of weekly territory travel.
Serve as an SMA sales consultant for division management as well as internal and external sales force members.
Actively participate as an SMA sales and investment resource for division, regional, and national sales force meetings.
Coordinate with division and national sales management in representing SMA across a variety of venues, to include national, regional as well as home office meetings/conferences.
Work with internal and external sales force management to establish a schedule and syllabus for site-based SMA training; coordinate and participate in regularly scheduled site-based SMA investment and sales training.
Coordinate delivery of relevant information and data on the general and fund-specific competitive landscape; some writing on SMA-related topics may be required.
Be an SMA business intelligence resource for division sales management as well as the internal and external sales force.
Work closely with the product team and sales force management on the creation and/or deployment of the SMA Sales plan holistically and by territories.
Help build and deliver all training to external SFM’s in Wealth Management.

The successful candidate will be an experienced buy side distribution professional who has a proven track record and broad knowledge of SMA products, and the demonstrated ability to build long term relationships and influence others.
5-7 years of SMA experience, preferably in a selling role.
CFA, CIMA or CFP strongly preferred.
Excellent verbal and presentation skills.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to analyze opportunities/issues and to recommend business solutions.
Strong training or leadership background.
A focus on achievement and a drive to take initiative while demonstrating sound business judgment.
The ability to develop, prioritize and implement best practices.
A leadership style that is open, approachable, and informing.

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions, and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for applicable sales bonuses, plus Capital’s annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
