Overview:

The Small Business Unit Manager is responsible for the administration and operation of the Small Business Unit Staff in assigned locations; supervising assigned personnel and the direct handling and servicing of commercial accounts in accordance with the practices, policies and procedures of the Company. This role requires an individual who is professional and who displays the drive, determination, and self-motivation to lead a team of Account Managers.

Direct the services of the departmentSupervise and direct department personnel (Account Managers and Account Techs) including training, motivation, and performance appraisalsWork with Operations Leader and staff to develop performance management and career paths/succession planningWork in conjunction with the Operations Leader in the hiring or dismissal of personnel within the commercial departmentMonitor, balance, and coordinate workloads among department personnelPromote account rounding and cross sellingProvide technical knowledge and expertise to department personnel regarding appropriate coverageSupport and mentor SBU Department as related to daily functions between middle market and small businessOversee, with the assistance of our Quality Control department, the quality control review process to assure the production of quality work and the provision of excellent customer serviceWork with Sales Executives to maintain synergy with Hub International corporate goals, our carrier requirements, and the needs of our clientsAct as a liaison between clients and insurance carriers to resolve escalated complex service issues that require policy interpretation and experience-based judgment to resolve. May also negotiate with underwriters and carriersPursue professional studies and maintain familiarity with trends in the industry and new insurance productsImprove/refine professional and supervisory skills through continuing educationEstablish and maintain good working relationships with company sales representatives, underwriting and claim representativesOther responsibilities as assigned by Regional Operations Leader

Work and Education Experience Requirements:

MUST hold current Property/Casualty License in resident state; includes maintaining by meeting all continuation education and other requirementsExtensive insurance knowledge and experienceHigh school diploma or equivalency; some college preferredSupervisory experienceThorough knowledge of Commercial Lines coverages and marketsExperience with agency management systemExperience with Microsoft Office productsExcellent organizational, interpersonal, listening, communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
