POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for operating a snowplow and related equipment to ensure safe and efficient snow and ice removal from roadways, parking lots, and other designated areas during winter weather conditions. This role requires adherence to safety protocols, excellent driving skills, and the ability to work in adverse weather conditions. This position has the potential to make up to 80,000.00 per year. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Employment Type: Full Time PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES • Operates company owned trucks to facilitate effective snow and ice removal and disburse cinders on roadways and other designated areas. • Stay informed about weather forecasts and road conditions to determine the need for snow/ice removal. • Operate loading equipment, (skid steer, backhoe, loader, etc.) to load trucks with stone. • Maintain stockpiles. • Maintains accurate records of hours worked, materials used, and tasks completed. • Performs required before-, during-, and after-operation “user maintenance” and refer defects or repairs to supervisor. • Labor work as needed to shovel snow, clean truck boxes and install tire chains as needed. • Willing to work night shift and weekends. • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards according to GFS or customer specific requirements. Includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). • Maintains compliance with all required training including but not limited to the DOT, OSHA, GFS, and customers of GFS. • Maintains consistent training in all aspects of the GFS Transportation Department, as required. • Attends mandatory meetings as required regardless of scheduled work day. • Maintains all required certifications required by DOT and OSHA and company safety programs. • Provides outstanding customer service during all operations. • Communicate any issues or concerns to the supervisor. • Prepares a journey management plan to ensure the most economical route and use of time and equipment. • Perform other duties as assigned during off-season or non-snow events. • Respects other drivers on the road (any size vehicles). KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES • One (1) to two (2) years of experience operating a snowplow/cinder truck for winter season, is preferred. • Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving techniques. • Ability to safely drive various vehicles/equipment. • Ability to effectively work independently or as a team. • Ability to drive in all weather conditions. • Ability to work various schedules including nights/weekends and local/regional travel. • Capable of reporting to duty at an on-call status. • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions. • Ability to make independent judgments which have moderate impacts on the organization. • Detail orientated with strong organizational skills. • Ability to keep company proprietary information confidential. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work successfully with a wide variety of people at different levels within the organization. LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION • Must have a valid driver’s license. Class B CDL License preferred. • Must be able to pass all DOT physical requirements and have current medical card or be able to obtain one. • Must be able to pass the Federal Drug Alcohol Clearing House background check. ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is required to walk, stoop, or kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles, and is regularly exposed to extreme heat or cold, or temperatures consistent with outdoor weather.
