ResponsibilitiesScope:
Reporting to the Bruker’s EVP of BNANO Group Operations, the Sr. Director, BPEN Operations is responsible for overseeing Bruker’s site operations in Penang, Malaysia. Within 3 facilities located in Bayan Lepas on Penang Island, over 200 employees design, manufacture and deliver scientific instrumentation products to Bruker’s worldwide industrial and academic customers. Position responsibilities include direct technical and managerial oversight of Penang operations, including manufacturing and product testing, regional supply chain management, and import/export compliance as well as supportive (dotted line) oversight of on-site engineering, HR, Finance, IT, and Order Administration personnel.
This position will engage and work closely with business, engineering and manufacturing leadership and individual contributors from Bruker divisions which have transferred or are planning to transfer products to Penang from their home factories (primarily located in Germany and the US). The leader will work with the Penang team as well as Operations leaders from partner Bruker divisions to set rolling 3-year manufacturing and supply chain strategic objectives with a goal of maximizing operational efficiencies to lower total costs and improve gross margins, while meeting quality, delivery and new product time-to-volume objectives. This would include incorporating group best practices where appropriate (e.g., lean manufacturing methodologies, factory consolidations, third party partnering arrangements, and strategic sourcing within region or in other low-cost areas).
Direct reports will include assembly, test, manufacturing and test engineering, supply chain and logistics personnel, and product compliance. The leader will also help supervise resources that directly report to overseas leadership but are in the Bruker Penang facilities.
As a senior member of the leadership team, this person will embody the highest levels of personal integrity and is responsible for establishing and upholding sound and ethical business practices that further the best interests of the Company, the suppliers, and its customers.
Primary Responsibilities:
Work closely with key members of the BPEN and BNANO divisional management team to establish Operations’ priorities, metrics, plans, processes and resources to achieve tactical and strategic business goals, and execute accordingly:
Achieving product delivery, quality, cost and inventory targetsSetting and meeting annual capital, expense and inventory budgetsSetting and meeting annual divisional / group / corporate objectives and KPIsAdhering to all Bruker corporate as well as local, regional, federal (Malaysian as well as related US and German) policies and legal requirements, including those pertaining to:Environment, Safety and Health,Personnel hiring and management,Interactions with 3rd parties (e.g., suppliers, customers, government officials)Developing and managing strategic sourcing and logistics relationshipsStaffing and developing the workforce to achieve and maintain a highly functional and capable professional team. QualificationsRequirements & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree (post-graduate Degree desired) in an Engineering discipline and/or Business AdministrationMinimum 15 years of increasing responsibility managing multiple manufacturing operations leading multidisciplinary teams responsible for all aspects of capital equipment manufacturing operations, including the successful introduction of products into manufacturingExperience directly managing high-tech manufacturing of complex electronic and mechanical assemblies, electro-mechanical assemblies, and high precision instrumentation requiring complex calibration and testing.Thorough knowledge of World Class Manufacturing systems and methods - including lean manufacturing, end-to-end planning concepts (e.g., Kanban, Reorder Point, and Min-max), and leveraging a global ERP system.Experience communicating with multiple divisions in a multinational corporation to transfer products between sites, quickly address quality / technical issues, and to help manage a global supply chain.An in-depth understanding of the manufacturing engineering, test, regulatory and quality issues associated with products targeted for worldwide distributionExperience engaging and partnering with the leadership of other functions (e.g., HR, Finance, IT, Engineering, Compliance) to establish and maintain a positive, healthy, safe and motivational work environment and to ensure Bruker employee and business needs are satisfied while optimizing process efficacies.Excellent organizational and project management skills as well as the ability to manage the details required to ensure all aspects of operations run seamlesslyExcellent written and verbal skillsAbility to partner with the other members of the management team to annually set SMART operations objectives in-line with the business needs and promoting an organizational mindset of operational excellence and efficiencyDemonstrate the essential characteristics of listening, creativity, integrity, competitiveness, accountability and teamwork within BPEN and across the BNANO groupAble to travel overseas for 4-8 times / year (trip lengths typically ~1 week)The ability to effectively communicate across all levels of an organization and create in others both a sense of urgency and a commitment to excellence
Education and related
Fluent in English and MalayMinimum BS or BA, preferably in engineering or science.Proficient in MS office usage, particularly Excel-based analyses.
