Social Compliance Coordinator

Our head office in Kingsville, ON is currently seeking a Social Compliance Coordinator to join our Food Safety team! The essential function of this role will assist the Director of ESG and Social Compliance to develop, implement and maintain the Social Compliance audit and certification requirements as well as supplier environmental data and certification schemes to support the Department. These programs include implementation and development of internal and externally facing social compliance audits, SMETA, EFI, Fair Trade, Human Rights, Modern Slavery Legislation compliance, environmental metrics, greenhouse gas accounting and IPM at our farms and with our growing partners in assigned area This includes helping to maintain the required SOPs, work instruction, guidelines, and documentation to support the programs. The role will require a high level of responsibility, accountability and critical thinking, with attention to detail and ability to act quickly as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

Act as business partner to growing and operations teams responsible for implementing and upholding key social impact programs such as SMETA, Fair Trade and EFI. Work with growing partners and our farm in preparation for their social compliance audits. Implement and track key environmental sustainability programs such as IPM, CDP and EPR programs and data reporting. Collaboratively develop operational remediation and improvement plans with internal and external stakeholders as an internal audit partner and in-house consultant. Track and maintain key actions and follow through to improvement plan items Develop regular cadence and coordinate progress update meetings. Maintain reporting relationships with key customers and stakeholders including retailers, business partners and government agencies. Periodically travel to operational sites across Canada and the United States to assess key issues and track performance Other duties as assigned by management.

 

Education/Background Requirements:

Experience with Social Compliance Auditing schemes and programs such as SMETA, Fair Trade and/or EFI either as an auditor, at a reporting organization or requesting customer organization. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, agriculture, business, sustainability or related field highly desired. APSCA Certified Auditor designation preferred. Other auditing designations/certifications in Social Compliance, ESG, GHG, and/or Food Safety are also highly considered.

 

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Ability to problem solve and develop action plans Possess expert level communication skills with the ability to communicate standards, educate farms regarding social and environmental standards, Empathetic listening and customer service skills needed to understand key issues facing internal and external partners’ needs and ensure accurate and complete follow-up. Proficient in analysis of financial and operating information to facilitate decision making and recommending actions to improve performance. Advanced MS Excel capability such as pivot tables, JET reports and experience in cleansing and manipulating large data sets for reporting and analysis. Experience operating in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently. Ability to synthesize disparate information and deliver meaningful insights. Must be flexible and willing to adapt to changing requirements and priorities. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

 

Working Conditions:

Normal office, greenhouse and packhouse environments. Position requires siting, standing, walking and bending on a regular basis. Must have manual dexterity to perform computer skills.
