THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset is seeking a dedicated and creative individual to join our team. As a Social Worker 2, you will have the chance to make a positive impact on the lives of inmates by utilizing your skills and providing case management services. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Social Worker 2, you will play a crucial role in helping inmates at SCI Somerset successfully reintegrate into society. Your work will involve developing, implementing, and coordinating social work and case management services to address the unique needs and challenges of inmates. You will also work closely with DOC staff and community organizations to develop and coordinate social service programs that support inmates and their families. Your role will also include providing guidance, crisis management, and counseling services to inmates, as well as motivating and assisting them in reaching their full potential and improving their overall well-being. In addition, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and reports, participating in parole planning, and assisting with reentry services.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
+ Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $58,035.00.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or Forensic Social Worker 1 (commonwealth titles) (must have been employed in a commonwealth social worker job title on September 8, 2008, with continuous commonwealth employment);or
+ Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or a Forensic Social Worker 1 and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare; or
+ Two years of professional experience providing direct public or private social work services, and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare;or
+ A master's degree in social work or social welfare.
+ Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirement:
+ As an employee in the Department of Corrections, you must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within two months of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment in the job.
