Overview The University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital has a .8 (Mon-Thurs) opening available for a MSW on our Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis team. The role of the pediatric cystic fibrosis (CF) social worker involves supporting children, adolescents, and young adults with cystic fibrosis, as well as their families, from diagnosis during infancy through young adulthood. The social worker will provide essential emotional, social, and psychological support as patients navigate the challenges of living with a chronic illness. As a key member of the CF care team, the social worker will collaborate closely with providers, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The social worker will assist patients and families in coping with the impact of CF on their daily lives, providing support in areas such as grief and loss, adjusting to life with a chronic illness, managing depression and anxiety, and helping with school and employment-related challenges. The pediatric CF social worker will also play an active role in quality improvement initiatives, program development, and educational opportunities within the CF community. Additionally, there may be opportunities to participate on local and national boards and contributing to the advancement and changing landscape of CF care. Responsibilities Job Description Key Responsibilities: Provide psychosocial support to pediatric CF patients and their families from birth through young adulthood. Work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team. Support patients and families in adjusting to life with a chronic illness, including addressing grief, loss of a “normal” life, and managing mental health concerns such as depression and anxiety. Assist patients with navigating school, employment, health insurance, and life transitions, including transitioning to the adult healthcare system. Provide counseling, crisis intervention, and referral services to patients and families. Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the care and well-being of CF patients. Contribute to program planning and development, working to improve services and outcomes for the CF community. Participate in local and national educational opportunities related to CF care. Engage in national CF care initiatives and committees focused on the role of social work in the CF population.
