This person will conceptualize and develop new products that improve the lives of our customers and support the most important job in the world, parenting. In this role you will be involved in all aspects of Soft Goods Design and development of baby gear. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to create compelling customer experiences for the next generation of innovative products.
Responsibilities:
As Soft Goods Designer you will work with teams located in Newell Brands’ facility in Atlanta, GA. Taking direction from the Soft Goods Design Manager you will support soft goods development from ideation through form development, making prototypes and production implementation. This role requires an individual who can work independently as well as collaborate with Marketing, R&D, ID, and Supply Chain business teams for a global brand. Your skills and experiences will be used to ensure Brand and Product technical guidelines are being met and effectively communicated across the organization.
Qualifications:
Experience: 3 + years of relevant experience in corporate or consulting design in Soft Goods/Fashion Education: Bachelor’s degree in Design, Fashion, Apparel, or a related field with a focus on soft goods development is required. Product development: Able to demonstrate collaboration with industrial design, engineering, and fashion on material selection, design feasibility and manufacturing. Prototyping: Experience in creating physical prototypes of soft goods designs for use in concept testing. Design Fundamentals: Strong capality in drawing, ideation, form development, textile application, prototype development, and production documentation. Digital Design 2D/3D: Working knowledge of emerging technologies and digital visualization skills and fully working knowledge of patterning software and Adobe creative suite. Pattern Development: Knowledge of basic to advanced patternmaking techniques for development. Applies patternmaking knowledge in innovative ways to produce disruptive concepts. Materials & Construction Techniques: Fully literate and experienced in all construction and finishing techniques used for prototype development. Ability to operate various types of industrial sewing machines. Design for Manufacture: Demonstrates the ability to work with vendors on communicating and editing methods of assembly and construction based off of the project scopes. Visual Communication: Demonstrates effective communication strategies between cross-functional teams. Human Factors: Quickly able to assess the human interface implications pertinent to any Soft Goods development project. Portfolio of Prior Work: Applicants must provide a portfolio of their prior relevant work and development.
