Our group works on the Oracle database kernel. We are responsible to support semi-structured data like JSON, text search and Hybrid Vector Search. We enable users to efficiently store and process this data: for example, we define new SQL operators, data structures and algorithms for storage, querying, indexing and generation of semi-structured data. As the Oracle Database is to serve the most demanding and mission-critical workloads everything we do has to work reliably and at scale.

Our team also works at the intersection of databases and applications: we provide document store APIs (even a MongoDB Api) so that developers can easily use the Oracle Database. We provide the text search backend infrastructure. With our own cloud service 'Autonomous JSON Database', we play an important role in Oracle's cloud strategy.
