You will be responsible for building innovative security systems that protect customer and corporate data across Amazon's massive, worldwide service-oriented architecture. You will help lead the technical vision and architecture for mission-critical software security solutions that enable Amazon businesses to design, build, and operate enterprise-scale systems securely.

Your work will help protect Amazon's and our customers' data by developing automation and security mechanisms that support software development and deployment. These systems will provide comprehensive security controls, enable secure cloud infrastructure, and ensure the protection of sensitive information across Amazon's diverse business units.

You will build scalable, reliable security systems with high availability and precision. You'll create distributed services on AWS, develop advanced security automation, and implement robust monitoring and prevention mechanisms. In this role, you will have a meaningful impact on how Amazon developers create and deploy software securely, ultimately protecting the data of millions of customers worldwide.

Key job responsibilities
You will work with the leadership team to drive key engineering and business decisions that will influence the Amazon developer experience. You'll build and expand innovative detection services that reach all parts of the software development and deployment lifecycle across the entire Amazon development community, including design, implementation, documentation, testing, deployment and operations across multiple teams, including mobile application developers. Since our systems are foundational to the Amazon ecosystem, you will also have the opportunity to learn about various Amazon business including the Amazon e-Commerce websites, Prime, Alexa, and AWS.

We're looking for a creative, customer- and details-obsessed Software Development Engineer with strong software engineering fundamentals (object-oriented design, algorithms and data structures) and a good grasp of advanced systems concepts and design. You must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, be self-driven and be able to deliver high quality results in a fast paced environment. You need to enjoy working closely with your peers of very talented engineers.



A day in the life
You will influence the future of security systems from inception to execution. You'll design, plan, code, build, test, release, and support critical security software that transforms complex security challenges into elegant, high-performance solutions. You will apply advanced algorithms and security practices to construct sensitive data protection components, AWS-based services, monitoring tools, and risk mitigation workflows.

In this role, you'll leverage security SMEs to transform domain expertise into software that reduces manual security processes, enables faster team responses, and protects millions of customers and billions in transactions. You'll work in an environment that values rapid innovation, where your ideas can move from concept to production with unprecedented speed and impact.

About the team
Discovery's mission is to prevent bad source code and configuration as code from being deployed anywhere at Amazon. We are an automation team that builds automated mechanisms that identify security issues in code across Amazon before being deployed. This requires highly scalable solutions that can work across all points of the software development lifecycle and meet builders where they are. We partner with security engineering teams to cover all code, from the retail site, to AWS services, to mobile apps.
