Software Development Engineer II, AmazonUI
AmazonUI (AUI) is looking for a Software Development Engineer (SDE-II) to modernize Amazon's front-end developer experience. AUI provides a library of front-end components, build tools, a templating engine, and runtime libraries used by thousands of engineers.
AUI engineers have a range of skills but, as a team, we set the bar for engineering accessible features, deploying client-side code, generating HTML, and ultra-low JavaScript golf scores. Our customer base gives us incredible leverage and the spotlight is often on us. We think in terms of frameworks not features. We make tools and languages.

As a team, we have been using either Kotlin or TypeScript for the last year, though we maintain existing code bases that use Java, Perl, and JavaScript. We use git for our VCS, and a proprietary system for managing our continuous deployments. We value testability, maintainability, code quality, and cogent design. Our products include the front end framework for Amazon, a JavaScript and CSS build system used by thousands, and a compiler for deploying markup templates across multiple languages.

Key job responsibilities
On the AmazonUI Builder Experience team, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop tooling that enables front end development at Amazon scale.
- Advocate for and integrate industry leading front end development standards and technologies with the Amazon development ecosystem.
- Create and drive metrics to measure impact of your contributions across Amazon's worldwide experience.
- Work on novel products and technologies that enable experience innovation at Amazon scale worldwide.

A day in the life
On the AmazonUI Builder Experience team, you will:
1. Participate in scrum ceremonies like standup, grooming, planning and retro mettings to collaborate and stay connected with your peers.
2. Write high quality, well tested code to further our novel technology solutions that remove undifferentiated work for Amazon front end developers.
3. Maintain a high bar on support for our broadly used front end build and asset injection technologies supporting front-end developers building features for the Amazon shopping experience.

About the team
AmazonUI owns the front-end engineering standards that developers across rely on to build and launch CX features across the Amazon shopping experience. This includes a library of re-usable building blocks (e.g. Buttons, Links, Product Carousels), build tooling, and highly available libraries that determine what assets (JS/CSS) are delivered per experience. We remove the undifferentiated work, so store builders can focus on building new innovative features for the experience. We remove undifferentiated work that ensures experiences built are accessible, performant, aesthetically functional and consistent across the Amazon store.
