Software Development Manager, Amazon Regulatory and Trade Services (ARTS)

ARTS team is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager interested in disrupting the way products are bought, sold, and distributed on a global scale. As a leader on the team, you will be expected to operate at all levels, diving deep into the details while providing strategic inputs for the product. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. You will be a key player in driving strategic planning, project execution, hiring and development of engineering talent, driving operational excellence, and shaping up the solutions to achieve ARTS vision for cross-border trade globally. The products and capabilities enabled by this role will deliver unprecedented selection and prices across Amazon’s 100MM+ customers, while innovating beyond established supply chain norms. The right candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with interactions across a wide variety of e-commerce topics, and will demonstrate competence in multiple fields and skill sets.

If so, ARTS team is working to enable some of the complex and challenging cross-border solutions to customers globally. This role will report ARTS Tech technology team. This team owns the tech solutions that span all of Amazon's businesses WW. In this role, you will gain the opportunity to interact and work with emerging businesses at Amazon from inception through growth phases. You will also gain strategic insights into evolving and mature compliance businesses. This team and role will provide a great opportunity to build your career at Amazon in the Software Development stream.
As a Software Development Manager on the team, you will anticipate bottlenecks, high ambiguity with customer problems, provide escalation management, make trade-offs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent, and leadership are essential for success in this role. In this role you will collaborate with leaders, work backward from customers, identify problems, propose innovative solutions, relentlessly raise standards, and have a huge impact by disrupting the way products are bought, sold, and distributed on Amazon on a global scale.
Key job responsibilities
1. Be responsible for the end to end ownership of a technology team, including setting the technical vision for developing our systems to serve Amazon's needs.
2. Build and manage great software engineers that are responsible for developing and maintaining software that ensures safety and compliance for our customers, associates and carrier partners.
3. Be a champion of engineering and operational excellence: establish team metrics for measurement of engineering and operational excellence and a consistent, regular process for assessment and improvement.
4. Establish a consistent, project management framework and excellent development processes to deliver high quality software, in rapid iterations, for business partners in multiple geographies.
5. Show strong business and technical judgment that will accelerate time to market of releases, while incrementally moving our services towards the long term vision.
6. Be responsible for mentoring and developing engineers.
7. Represent the technical organization and evangelize the work to business stakeholders and senior leadership.
8. Raise the bar on technical excellence, show thought leadership, and communicate well to different audiences.
A day in the life
1. Be part of discussions, brainstorming ideas with Product Managers, SMEs, SDMs etc.,
2. Drive tech team with Sprint execution, identify efficiencies, operational improvements and be part of design reviews, two-way door decisions etc.,
3. Have 1:1s with the team, cross-team SDMs, managers and skip managers
4. Drive the team and org vision with innovative solutions and think big ideas
5. Have a lots of customer obsession and deliver results.
6. Collaborate closely with Business stakeholders, UX designers, and other peer team members to help define the scope of the product.
7. Contribute to OP exercise, OE/ EE initiatives etc.,

The mission of Amazon Regulatory and Trade Services (ARTS) Tech is to facilitate the secure, lawful, and efficient transportation of products, software, and technology (e.g., “deemed exports”) across international borders. This involves tasks such as assigning trade and import classifications, providing estimated duties and import costs, determining export/import restrictions, and ensuring product safety and compliance with regulations. ARTS Tech is responsible for end-to-end maintenance and development across a broad and complex suite of solutions and services that cater to the global trade and direct import product compliance space, with GTS being its core business. ARTS customers include internal Amazon Consumer businesses (e.g., direct imports, core exports, global store, private brands), non-inventory (e.g., Prime Air, Devices, Robotics, OTS and Physical Stores Tech), as well as external customers such as seller partners, vendors, customs brokers, carriers, and freight forwarders.
