The Web Player team implements the JavaScript adaptive video client that delivers Netflix content to our users on the Web. Our technology stack includes HTML5 and Typescript, using features like Media Source Extensions (MSE), Encrypted Media Extensions (EME), and Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC). Today, we support all major browser vendors and work closely with them to design and incorporate technologies like 4K, HDR, AV1, xHE-AAC, and Dolby Atmos that advance the state of the art for video streaming.
Our work includes driving measurable improvements to our customers' streaming experience as well as building out new features to support innovative product experiences like Live Streaming and Cloud Games. As part of our day-to-day work, we collaborate with UI engineering and product teams, browser vendors, content and studio engineering, and data experts to deliver video playback to every part of the Netflix Web experience.
