About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking an Application Software Engineer. The Transaction Processing product is looking for a highly skilled Application Software Engineer to work on mainframe software development with a focus on COBOL. This Software Engineer will provide the development of posting and settlement application programs that have an impact on the client and customer.
This role requires knowledge and understanding of application lifecycle, from design, development, testing, to implementation with a strong understanding of High Availability concepts and architecture. This Software Engineer will be counted on to provide technical expertise for technical issues, supporting mainframe file processing, Business Continuity Planning exercises and implementation.
In this role, you will:
Participate in low to moderately complex initiatives and projects associated with the technology domain, including installation, upgrades, and deployment efforts
Identify opportunities for service quality and availability improvements within the technology domain environment
Design, code, test, debug, and document for low to moderately complex projects and programs associated with technology domain, including upgrades and deployments
Review and analyze technical assignments or challenges that are related to low to medium risk deliverables and that require research, evaluation, and selection of alternative technology domains
Present recommendations for resolving issues or may escalate issues as needed to meet established service level agreements
Exercise some independent judgment while also developing understanding of given technology domain in reference to security and compliance requirements
Provide information to technology colleagues, internal partners, and stakeholders
Analyze business requirements and develop COBOL software to specifications.
Understand Mainframe infrastructure, security frameworks, and risk standards.
Have a solid working knowledge of the software development life cycle.
Possess an understanding of mainframe coding standards, best practices and RACF security.
Have expertise in mainframe scheduling using CA7.
Verifies program logic by overseeing the preparation of test data, testing and debugging of programs.
Leads the migration of programs to production.
Develops new documentation, participates in the development of department technical procedures.
Assures code quality, security and compliance requirements are met.
Have working expertise in these mainframe technologies: Job Control Language (JCL), DB2 databases, Network Data Mover (NDM), IBM Mainframe Utilities, Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM), System Display and Search Facility (SDSF), Custom Information Control System (CICS), and IBM SPUFI.
Required Qualifications:
2+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with internal/external teams to implement and troubleshoot issues
Experience with building and maintaining enterprise-scale API and batch job processing
Change and Incident Management expertise utilizing ServiceNow
Strong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with internal and external technology partners both on and offshore
Software development SDLC experience
