Software Engineer (C#/ Java)

Overview

You will work on Mendix low-code platform and documents generation solutions under xPression or Quadient.

The team’s key initiatives are focused on the delivery of integrated platforms across submission, rating, underwriting, policy admin and claims as well as providing enhanced data analytics and business intelligence. To support this transformation, the P&C IT team is growing to ensure and support the delivery of our systems to a high-quality standard and to enhance the engagement with the business. 

Responsibilities:

Serve as a technical specialist for a portfolio of applications in the delivery of advanced concepts, principles, and methods. Address client business challenges in the intersection of process and technology. Collaborate with the scrum master and business stakeholders to gather requirements and define application functionality. Be responsible for detailed solution design of application components and interfaces. Design, develop and share reusable assets that can be readily applied to new projects. Test and troubleshoot applications to ensure quality and functionality. Work with any integration teams on any downstream systems connecting to P&C systems as appropriate. Provide ongoing support and maintenance to deploy our solutions. Review and recommend improvements to existing system designs and engineering processes. Stay updated with the latest features and industry trends. Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced members of the development team.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s/master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, engineering or another related field. 2+ years of work experience in implementing Digital applications, B2B, B2C and Web applications. Development experience of C# and/or Java. Experience developing web services, web service APIs, as well as implementing code to consume existing APIs would be beneficial. Experience in all phases of application development lifecycle (requirements analysis, design, coding, unit testing, deployment, post-go live support, maintenance). Previous experience in problem-solving, requirements analysis and experience in communicating with business users to refine requirements. Proactive attitude and willingness to make any extra effort required to ensure that the company delivers and maintains its enviable reputation. Strong Interpersonal and communications skills in English. Experience with tracking tools like Jira. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

 

The following will be considered a plus: 

 

Experience in the Insurance or Banking Sectors.  Proven experience as a developer preferably in Mendix and/or document generation solutions (xPression or Quadient).  Experience with source version control, preferably Github. Experience in relational data base designs and database development such as creating tables, stored procedures, running query profiles.  Experience with test driven development.  Knowledge of Agile, CI/CD and experience working in Agile, CI/CD development teams
