Software Engineer - Forwarding Interfaces

The Spitfire Interface and Bundles Software Development Team is responsible for delivering high-quality solutions on Cisco 8000 routers. This team provides the foundation software infrastructure for a variety of Layer 2 and Layer 3 routing protocols, multicast, and more. You will have the opportunity to learn a wide range of technologies and partner with other teams internally to build solutions for our customers. This team is helping to power the high-tech networks of some of the largest service providers and enterprises in the world.

This position is focused on embedded SW with significant SW/HW interactions. The solutions will involve Device Drivers, and Network Processors knowledge. Experience with memory architectures will be useful as well as experience with multi-threaded and multi-process programming. 

 

What You'll Do  

 

As a Software Engineer in the Spitfire Interface and Bundles Development (Cisco 8000) team, you will design and develop a large range of networking features as part of the Software Development Team. The foundational features of the next generation platforms are solidly in place. This will be a ground floor opportunity and will allow you to be responsible for the next phase of product growth, convergence in the SP space supplying significant features for. Other responsibilities include… 

Develop Software Development Kits (SDKs) and control planes for networking protocols, leveraging the advanced capabilities of Cisco's newer generation SiliconOne ASICs.Optimize the performance of network layer SW for low latency, high throughput and efficient resource utilization Work closely with the HW team to ensure successful interfacing of the OS with the network hardware. Test and debug issues 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

Bachelor’s with 5+ years of relevant experience or Master’s with 3+ years of relevant experience or PhD with 0+ years of relevant experience.  Minimum of 2 years of experience programming with C 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

Programming experience with Python Experience with multi-threaded or multi-process programming Experience with debugging tools such as GDB Experience implementing L3 network protocols such as IPv4, IPv6 etc. Experience operating in a Linux environment including familiarity with Linux command lines Understanding of segmentation faults and how to fix them  Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
