Software Engineer II - Back End / ABC News
**Overview:** The Search and Entertainment Platform Services team is responsible for powering the content discovery experience that serves ESPN, ABC News, National Geographic, Marvel Unlimited, and all domestic and international Disney brands. We build data pipelines and core data services to deliver new search features and enhance personalization for our guests. We also support and modernize the distribution platforms that power the ABC Entertainment full suite of products which include ABC, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic. Our challenge is to provide low latency and high availability at scale for millions of users, with a technology stack that can keep up with our constantly growing customer base. As a Software Engineer II, you will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and product managers to find the best solution for our guests. You will drive projects end-to-end: design and develop solutions; finding alignment with technology and product teams; execution of the necessary code; and overseeing the deployment of code to production. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you! **RESPONSIBILITIES** + Participate in setting the architectural direction for software development projects. + Design and develop new solutions and drive alignment across engineering and product teams. + Effectively communicate with stakeholders on project progress. + Write code that establishes and enhances frameworks and design proof of concepts. + Determine the most efficient means to sufficiently test new code: unit tests, integration tests, performance tests, etc. + Follow best practices for the team for on-call responsibilities such as deployments, monitoring, and investigating incidents + Use logs, monitoring tools etc. and work with developers to determine root causes across distributed components during production incidents. + Perform code reviews for members of the team, bearing a sense of responsibility for approved code. + Coach and mentor teammates in an open, respectful, flexible, empathetic manner. Help onboard new team members. **QUALIFICATIONS** + Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience + 3+ years of experience in building highly available architecture, shipping robust code and creating a positive team environment + Experience crafting and operating large-scale, high-availability backend services using Java + Experience deploying and scaling within a cloud infrastructure preferably AWS + Understanding of and experience using search technologies ( _AWS OpenSearch_ ). + Demonstrated success in being part of a team problem-solving, designing and implementing software at scale + Experience with performance tuning and building/maintaining software that is in the critical path + Biased towards action, with experience delivering high-quality software solutions on time, at scale and within budget + Experience using source control systems and CI/CD pipelines ( _such as Git, Github, Jenkins_ ). + Experience with AGILE/Scrum practices + Experience with observability tools for metrics, logging, and monitoring (such as Datadog and Grafana). + Strong communication skills and a desire to share your knowledge with team members and others across the ABC News and Entertainment org The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles is $114,900 to $154,100 per year and in New York or Seattle is $120,300 to $161,300 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
