**About the Role**
As a Backend Software Engineer at Uber, you will architect highly-performant, reliable, services used by millions of external and hundreds of internal customers. You will work closely with our internal customers and stakeholders across all lines of business - Riders, UberEats, Jump, Freight, etc. - to build the services and tools that power hundreds of millions of daily user interactions. At Uber, we have a high bar for quality - you will collaborate closely with Product Managers and other stakeholders to build scalable systems with an emphasis on scalability and reliability. The services you build will enable Uber to build our brand, share our stories, acquire, and engage our customers

\-\-\-\- What the Candidate Will Do ----
Work on complex backend systems by designing, implementing, and unit testing your code.
Contributing towards defining an architecture that would scale and apply best practices.
Write code that is reliable, reusable and avoid surprising outcomes.
Ability to drive clarity of problem statements and breakdown work into meaningful tasks.
Actively work with cross functional counterparts - product managers, operations leads to deliver successful projects in a timely manner.
\-\-\-\- Basic Qualifications ----
1. Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering field (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, etc.)
2. Expertise. We’re looking for engineers with 3+ years of relevant experience building highly-scalable distributed systems. You have advanced knowledge of at least one programming language (Java, Go, C++) and at least basic knowledge of one or more of the following technologies: Kafka, NoSQL & relational databases, Redis, etc.
3. Fast learner. We’re looking for software engineers who thrive on learning new technologies and don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. You should be able to adapt easily to meet the needs of our massive growth and rapidly evolving business environment.
4. Fearlessness. You think a working proof-of-concept is the best way to make a point. You strive to prove that speed and quality are not conflicting; that you can achieve both at the same time.
5. Versatility. In addition to having an intimate knowledge of the backend stack, you understand how all the pieces fit together (front-end, database, network layer, etc.) and how they impact the performance of your service and your clients.
6. Strong architecture chops. You know how to build highly scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant services that support our unique rate-of-growth requirements. You stay up-to-date with the latest architectural trends.
7. Passion. You feel ownership over everything you ship; you'd never call code "released" until you’re confident it’s correct. You pride yourself on efficient monitoring, strong documentation, and proper test coverage.
8. A team player. You believe that you can achieve more on a team — that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. You rely on others' candid feedback for continuous improvement.
9. Design and business acumen. You understand requirements beyond the written word. Whether you’re working on an API used by other developers, an internal tool consumed by our operation teams, or a feature used by millions of riders, your attention to detail leads to a delightful user experience.

1. Experience of building products in the early stages iterating fast & learning from customers to achieve the product market fit.
2. Have worked across timezones with cross functional teams to collaborate and deliver on ambiguous projects.
3. Have demonstrated ability to work in a fungible manner across tech stacks and programming languages across different domains including Backend, Frontend, Applied ML, etc.

Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber’s cultural identity.
