Software Engineer III - Assembler Developer

Develops software tools including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools. Determines software’s compatibility with hardware and/or influences software's design in relation to hardware. **Position Reports to:** **Manager** **, Software** **Engineering** **Job Overview:** The Software Engineer-III designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. A Mainframe Software Engineer-III is responsible for maintaining and enhancing products in the mainframe z/OS storage portfolio. You will troubleshoot reported symptoms to aid in the resolution process directly for the customer or as a means to provide a permanent solution via product fix. **Essential Duties and Responsibilities** : + Good understanding of computer science fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, etc. acquired from education and/or experience. + Excellent Mainframe programmer + Good knowledge of IBM z/OS internals and z/OS Storage + Proficient at complex programming & knowledge of standard data structure and algorithms. + Make recommendations for each when solving technical problems. + Completes assignments in a timely manner and within quality tolerance. + Write modular, maintainable code with some guidance. + Make the right trade-offs to efficiently solve problems. + Recognize impact software changes will have on systems. + Make component changes. + Understand and comply with provided requirements, translate them into code. + Understands the principles of hardware to make design decisions. + Link the work to the external market. + Build subject matter expertise within the current product domain. + Delivers well structured, tested, and documented code within agreed-upon timelines. + Provide reasonably accurate estimates of work. + Participates in all required meetings and agile ceremonies. + Keen to provide test coverage to protect against future changes. **Required Qualifications:** + Minimum 5+ years Mainframe Assembler programming + Experience with IBM MVS (z/OS) + IPCS dump reading and debugging skills + Good knowledge of JES internals + Experience in Problem diagnosis, dump reading and debugging (with IPCS a plus) + Good knowledge of IBM z/OS internals and z/OS Storage. + Able to write high-quality code rapidly, test and debug. + Able to present a track record of solving problems of increasing complexity + Good communication skills **Desired Skills:** + Working knowledge and ability to debug and support modern applications/technologies + IBM Metal C + PLX + Java + REXX **Education:** Bachelor's degree or equivalent. **Travel Requirements:** 0-10% + Job Family Group: Engineering + Job Family: Software & Quality Assurance Engineering + Job Profile Name:Software Engineer III + Employee Type: Individual Contributor + Job Level: P3 (Career) .
