Software Engineer III - Athena Trade & Risk Services (Reference Data)

As a seasoned Software Engineer, your goal is to design, develop, and deliver software components within the Athena ecosystem. You will collaborate with a team of innovators and technologists focused on creating advanced solutions that enhance our business operations. Your extensive knowledge in analyzing, designing, coding, testing, and deploying software will be crucial in solving problems in both business and technical contexts. Your expertise across various technology domains will be essential in setting strategic direction and addressing complex, mission-critical issues, both internally and externally. Best of all, you’ll leverage a vast network of technologists from around the globe.

Athena is a cross-asset platform revolutionizing technology at JP Morgan. It provides innovative and efficient applications to a broad spectrum of the firm's business, including sales, trading, operations, risk, and research. Athena merges the best of open-source technologies with innovative components developed internally, offering candidates the opportunity to contribute to a wide array of exciting projects. Our developers enjoy collaborating with front office, quants, and other technology teams.

We seek hands-on Software Engineers who relish solving challenging technical problems. Ideal candidates possess a strong foundation in Computer Science, and are capable of working across different platforms and languages. Candidates are motivated by working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with a high degree of code sharing and reuse. A focus on innovation and quality of solutions should be evident from their contributions in previous professional roles or projects.

As part of the Reference Data group within Athena Trade & Risk Services, your role will be to design and deliver technical products aimed at making the usage and discovery of reference data across different asset classes a seamless experience. You will work directly with line of business software engineers to understand business use cases, formulate problem statements, and be responsible for the full pipeline of software delivery. You will build relationships with internal clients and take full ownership of software delivery to assist with business migrations to the Athena platform. You should be a self-sufficient developer comfortable tackling new and complex problem sets. Prior experience with Reference Data is preferable, but more important is the ability to quickly grasp new concepts and flows and back that up with robust, high-quality, maintainable, and reusable code.

Key Responsibilities

Develop robust, high-performance software products and APIs, and enhance existing applications using the Athena Platform. Align development with the overall Athena Reference Data convergence strategy. Be responsible for the entire software development lifecycle: requirement gathering, design, implementation, testing, and handover to line of business teams. Enhance the team by demonstrating best practices throughout the software development lifecycle: testing, code review, accurate status reporting, focus on application resilience, and “operability”.

Professional Python (or other Object-Oriented Language (Java, C++)) experience with a proven track record of high-quality successful delivery.  Proven wide-ranging technical experience demonstrating a genuine interest in technical products and problem-solving. Excellent communication skills and ability to integrate into a cross-region team.

Experience with ecosystems similar to Athena/Python (e.g. Quartz, SecDB).  Knowledge of the products traded in capital markets (e.g. bonds, stocks) and business processes. Knowledge of vendor systems used in the banking industry (e.g. Bloomberg).
