Software Engineer III ( IBMi/AS400-RPG, CL, PL/1)

Job Description Summary:

The Software Engineer-III designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software tools including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools. Determines software’s compatibility with hardware and/or influences software's design in relation to hardware. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Proficient at design of new product features and integrations.Proficient at complex programming exercising independence and discretion while working independently or as part of a team.May lead a team on short term projects as needed.Act as the technical subject matter expert for a product domain and may act as the technical leader within a team.Work independently to create new features, implement software enhancements, correct defects.Documents and communicates on complex technical topics outside the immediate development teamMay interact with customer users to define system requirements and/or necessary modificationsHistory of success working within a team environment


Required Qualifications/Experience

Typically requires a minimum of 5+ years of related experienceExcellent designing and coding skillsUnderstanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable applicationStrong background in IBMi OS on IBM Power ServersStrong experience in RPG (Report Programming Generator) Proven working experience in PL/I on AS400/IBMiStrong experience in CL (Control Language)Strong experience with SQL Database (DB2)Working experience with SQL Procedures & FunctionsProficient understanding and experience of code versioning tools, such as GitExperience with CI/CD (Jenkins) and, build toolsConversant with Windows and Unix/Linux OSFluency in English language, both written and spoken excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to deal professionally and collaboratively with all levels of the organization and across geographies.


Preferred Skills/Experience

Working experience in ANSI C++ and C Working experience in Microsoft Visual C++ and Visual StudioConversant with public cloud vendors such as Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud or AWSThrives in a multi-tasking environment with constantly evolving priorities.Ability to analyze complex problems into simple sub problems and then reuse available solutions to implement most of those.Ability to design simple systems that can work efficiently without needing much support.Agile development methodologies


Key Skills:

AS400 / IBMi  RPG PL/I or PL/1 (Programming Language One) on AS400/IBMi CL (Control Language) DB2 C++


Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
