Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time. The Role The Dev Spaces team’s mission is to improve the productivity of the Inner development loop - the tight, iterative cycle of writing, building, and testing software. We do this by offering Netflix-optimized IDEs, Developer Workflow Tooling, and Cloud Development Environments, called Dev Workspaces, to thousands of Netflix engineers around the world. We are looking for a Software Engineer to serve as a technical and product driver for IDEs (VS Code and JetBrains), IDE integrations with the Netflix stack, and the web UIs that serve as the interface for the team’s offerings. What you will do: + Work with partner teams to develop and ship useful defaults to thousands of Netflix engineers. At our scale, even small improvements lead to significant impact to confidence, efficiency, and quality across engineering. + Drive further integrations between VS Code, JetBrains IDEs and Dev Workspaces, equipping Netflix engineers with development environments that exceed the capabilities of our industry peers. + Build tooling and processes that make it easier for other teams to write, build, test, and distribute IDE plugins that make Netflix engineers more productive. + Advise or lead the development of new web-based UIs for Dev Workspaces and our IDE management tooling. + Complement the rest of the team with your considerable JavaScript or Java experience, advising your peers on patterns and best practices. + Provide mentorship to colleagues inside and outside of the team at varying levels of experience. Requirements: + You have the communication skills required to collaborate with and influence teams and individuals in order to drive initiatives forward without a strict top-down mandate. + You have experience leading large, cross-functional projects or product domains. + You have a track record of navigating technical and cultural change in a large organization. + You have professional-level proficiency with either Java or Javascript. + You have previously developed tooling for other engineers. + You have a product-centric mindset that you use to understand business needs. You have the technical and interpersonal skills to collaboratively design the scalable systems and engineering solutions that meet those needs. + You employ strong senses of empathy and curiosity to build the best possible experiences for the users of your products. + You are comfortable operating in an environment that is loosely coupled but tightly aligned towards a shared vision. Nice-to-haves: + Experience with Go or Kotlin in a production setting. + Prior experience developing JetBrains or VS Code plugins. + Prior experience designing or implementing UIs (web, IDE, mobile). Our culture is unique, and we tend to live by our values, allowing you to do your best work and grow. To learn more about Productivity Engineering, feel free to listen to this podcast.
