Software Engineer Manager
Overview This is a hybrid role based out of Malvern, PA (3 days in office) CubeSmart is currently seeking an Engineering Manager to join the Information Technology team at our corporate office in Malvern, PA. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for the technical oversight and management of CubeSmart’s enterprise store operating platform. Responsibilities Application Development Lead the development and transformation of the CubeSmart Hive Application & Platform for customer-facing and store teammate applications. Define and implement technical architectures for scalable, maintainable business applications using industry-standard design patterns. Ensure application performance, reliability, and alignment with business objectives. Drive best practices in development, including code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing (including unit, integration, system testing). Ensure compliance with version control, documentation, security, and performance standards. Team Development & People Management Build and lead a high-performing engineering team, with a focus on technical excellence, governance, and quality assurance. Mentor and manage software engineers through training, task prioritization, and process optimization. Foster a culture of engineering excellence, emphasizing performance, scalability, privacy, and security. Technology Leadership Implement modern development tools, methodologies, and best practices to enhance productivity. Drive continuous improvement of business systems and applications to improve performance and time to market. Define, automate and enforce technical standards, best practices, and coding guidelines. Ensure all applications and platforms meet PCI, PII, and SOX compliance requirements. Establish and uphold security, scalability, and performance across all solutions. Collaboration & Delivery Collaborate with IT Project Management to deliver application functionality and enhancements on time and within budget. Lead sprint planning to clarify objectives and ensure timely delivery. Monitor and report team KPIs, including productivity, code quality, and project delivery metrics. Research & Innovation Research and integrate emerging technologies and industry trends to advance the platform. Foster a culture of innovation and experimentation through proof-of-concept initiatives. Promote continuous learning and professional development across the team. Qualifications Passion for people management and building cloud-native applications and products. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience). 6-8+ years of experience leading and supporting omnichannel commerce platforms using modern technology stacks. Expertise in at least one backend language (e.g., Java, Rust, Ruby on Rails, or GoLang) and its frameworks, with strong knowledge of design patterns and server-side architecture. Experience developing business applications with ReactJS or JavaScript front ends. Proficiency in ORM, messaging, and search frameworks. Hands-on experience with DevOps, agile environments, and API design following best practices. Proven ability to organize and track developer work, manage exceptions, estimate timelines, and report progress using tools like JIRA. Demonstrated leadership in building roadmaps, guiding development teams, and adopting best practices in design and delivery. Strong skills in translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences. Hands-on experience with AWS cloud computing, middleware, and ETL tools. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Expertise in developing containerized applications using GitOps methodologies.
