What You’ll Do 

As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll dive deep into ground-breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—pushing the boundaries to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers’ high-value problems. You’ll work on interesting and challenging projects, contributing your expertise in intricate systems, deciphering code, and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.​

Role Responsibilities:  

Develop code for software projects, designing and implementing bug fixes, and designing  

general software projects 

Perform software tests on code and enhancements 

Develop software documentation 

Develop and enhance software tools used for communicating to external components via Ethernet-based protocols 

Analyze and troubleshoot various Ethernet protocol interfaces 

Interface with internal customers for requirements analysis 

Perform basic engineering analysis under general supervision 

Troubleshoot a variety of moderately complex software and communication protocol problems 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

Graduating with a Master’s of PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field 

Good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale 

Experience with at least one of the following programming languages: C/C++/C# for either application or embedded development 

Programming experience in any of the following areas a plus: DBMS (SQL/no-SQL), Multithreading, Performance Profiling, TCP Sockets, REST/gRPC, Generative AI 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

Scripting knowledge with Python 

Previous internship or related field experience 

Demonstrated leadership experience 

Able to solve complex problems and take a new perspective on existing solutions  

Ability to exercise judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information  

Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus  

Flexible and adaptable mindset who thrives in a results-driven culture 

Thesis and relevant coursework

U.S. Salary Range:

$124,000.00 - $170,500.00

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
